Ok, so i got my motor all built and everything, runs amazing.

Its a real Bi*** to get started if the motor is cold, and i figured out last night if i leave the gas on it leaks everywhere out of the bottom of the carb and floods the motor. It does it when its running to i think because it kinda boggs just a tiny bit at full throttle but then comes out of it.

So this mornning i switched carbs, threw the jets out of the one im using into a different one (and a well cleaned one) and i put it on. it does the same thing.

Im stumped.

Sounds like the needle for the float is stuck. Its pretty common if a carb has just been sitting around, especially if its just sitting on the shelf dry.

Went out and checked over everything. Now i am changing my thought. I dont think its leaking out of the bottom of the carb.

The entire carb is soaked in gas? Like its almost popping back through the head, but it doesnt backfire through the carb unless i flood it out.

check to make sure were the gas is coming from, is it leaking down from the lines from the tank on the outside of carb?or maybe from shut off valve, or is it from inside carb leaking from a drain tube?

if you think its coming from compression from motor blowing it out the carb it could be timing, or poorly seated valves...

but first thing is to find exactly were the gas is leaking from

Make sure that all of the vents out of your carb are clear the air has to get out so the floats will work right...I had that happen a long time ago to a carb tha sat forever.

Ok so since i have 3 carbs (2 are kinda parts carbs) I took all 3 of them apart. Took all the good parts to make one good carb. Also had to run to the quad shop to buy a couple little o rings.

I realised the carb i had on it didnt have an overflow tube off the bottom of the bowl so i put one on there. Put everything back together, and as soon as i turn the gas on, it flows directly out of that tube on the bottom of the bowl..

Im guessing the carb is still dirty?

that's a float issue, either its sticking, or the float needle is worn, or the float needs adjusting

The float/float needle is getting stuck.

Take the carb apart, clean where the float needle goes and the needle-REALLY good. Then take a can or whatever and fill it up with about a 1/2 cup gas. Stick the float in-it floats good, it doesnt buy a new one.

Oh, check your oil andpossibly change it as it might have gotten contaminated.

Also, the float needle end gets worn, made of vulcanized rubber I think. Would think with 3 carbs one would be good but I'd go out and get a new one. Probably 10$ for the float needle.

When you say flows directly out of the tube on the bottom... Do you have the drain screw closed?

Found out my problem, there is a difference between 2003 and 2004 carbs i guess?

The float from a 2003 is not interchangable with a 2004 float.

I will explain more with pictures.

here is a pic of the 2004 carb, take a good look at the main jet cylinder piece.

Now compare to the 2003 carb.

Ok now do you see the difference i am referring to?

The floats are made different also.

Here is the picture of the 2004 float, notice the cross-member type plastic piece that connects to two float air pockets?

Now here is a picture of the 2003 float, also note that there is no cross-member type piece.

So here was my problem, Due to me using a 2003 carb and it having that 2004 float on it, that cross-member type piece on the 2004 float was hitting on that extra little flat piece next to the main jet, and making the float to where it could not move up and down. So it was just holding the float open the entire time.
