I'm looking into getting a new cam for my 05. I ride mostly mx with some dunes. I'm between the stage 2 hot cam and the crf cam. What year oem crf cams work for the trx? Any advantage/disadvantage between the crf and hot cams stage 2?

I think you would be happy with either. I run the st 2 hot cam. It will also depend on other mods you might do as well.

the crf is the same cam u use for the hrc kit the stag two will give a lil more mid range i think

How did the stage 2 affect your bottom end? I had a friend that had a HRC in his 05 and the bottom was terrible. It was super weak, by stock cammed 05 pulls way harder off the bottom. But his pulled super hard from mid to top but it took a while to get there. I messed with his jetting but it never really helped with the bottom end and that's what's holding me back with choosing my cam.

As for mods motor wise in the future I may do some mild porting but that's about it. I'll probably stay will the 12:1 so I can run pump gas.

ok gearing also plays effect in wat ur lookin for id say try running a 14 37 gearing maby even a 13 on front for bottom but my bike dosent hesitate now in saying that i am running a 14 compression piston ported head thats cut 60 thoundsans off and kibble white valves with a fcr i can tell u a few things u can do to help make that 05 run great first thing is wat carb do u have

I'm running a 13 tooth front with the stock 38 rear. I'm running a 12:1 piston and I'll more than likely keep it that way so I can stick with pump gas. I am running the stock 05 carb.

np and just keep a 14 handi and if u wanna streach that 13 a lil farther get a 37 tooth rear and it will make ur gearing a lil better

The hot cam provides all around performance. I do have the fcr carb as well.

The crf cam you want is from the 2002. No it isnt the same as a hrc cam. It is a great all around cam that gives tons of low end torque. This is the cam i have in mine

Are u a honda rep or summin go do the research a hrc cam is the same as a dirtbike cam thats why ppl with 06 and newer bikes just switch the heads cause th dirtbike has bigger valves and a bigger cam than a stock trx

But i do agree that yes all of the cams( crf and trx) will interchange

Im just letting him know the best "stock" crf cam is from the 2002. Im sure there are better cams than this one ,just that the 02 has the most impressive numbers out of the stock cams. Ive ridden bikes with all the cams you stated hrc, stage 2 and 02 crf. The hrc and stage 2 have more top end pull but the 02 crf has more bottom end pull IMO and less on top compared to the others. That isnt from the dyno thats just how they felt when riding them.

The stg two dont really pull top as hard the hrc is a great mid to top cam and the stg two is a mostly mid cam and no not an actual dyno its called butt dyno baaically the power diff u feel on the seat thays wat we describe on cars with small power

I dont id rather be a ds or ktm rep personally honda stays plain its time to mix it up a lil i mean yes they make a great quad but it takes to much to make it right for the track ktm is a instand track bike and so is ds but hell ill be a rep for any of them they all have there ups and downs

Get your head ported. You will leave performance on the table, from your new cam. Also install a FCR, you will be very pleased! :D

Thanks for all the input guys. From what I've read I think I'll be going with the stage 2. I'll also look into get the head ported and maybe finding a deal on a FCR.
