Looking for some help tuning a 90cc malossi big bore. friend's son is running it on his quad with a mach 1 pipe and stage 6 ignition, and a malossi overange kit. thing is a dog off the line and wont pick up power until about mid way through the holeshot. just looking to see if anyone runs that setup and what they r using for weights and torque springs. just dont seem like it has any snap off the line.

Gino,
Talk to Jim Grace or Jadin's dad ( Jason). They are both running Malossi set-ups. You guys are killing me with these motors. Gonna make me spend some money just to get through these last 6 races!!!!! Brando flew out of the holeshot last Atco race!!!

sounds like something other than clutching but try a red malossi t-spring and 3.5 rollers , should wheelie out of gate.

I'm running the same thing. I adjusted our timing from 2.2mm BTDC to 2.6mm BTDC and it made a world of difference. Noah is a rocket out of the gate now. We run the MAXRPM 1500 overrange spring and 4.25 rollers.

if it's not clutching what else could it be?

it could be clutching , just can't imagine be so far off that power does not come in till half way down the holeshot. Possible air-leak , carb and jetting issue, or timing problem but its easy to check the clutching , do it first. What is in it now, rollers and spring ?

Gino,
How are you guys making out with Raymond's quad? I bought a YFZ radiator but it won't be here til next week. Did Frankie's quad get hot Sunday?

You might want to check the variator too, see if it's got grooves wore in it, #77 rode that quad hard!! Also test it with and without shims between the plates, just thinking.

We have ran that set up for a couple years. We ran a Malossi motor with a PCS pipe and loved it. When Marc came out with the mach 1 pipe we swapped to it and was very pleased with the power. Infact that same setup took us up the hill at Pell City in second place in 90 auto jr and only lost the hole shot by about a foot.....That set up is capable of making good power.

timming @ .145 BTDC
Malossi over-range
Malossi red torque spring
3.8--4.0 rollers
19f--30r sproket (maybe 33r)
Mach 1 pipe

I would say, if you can't get it with that then you do have other problems.

Gino.

We run a max rpm pipe with a 2000 overrange spring and 5 gram rollers. Thats on our 90.
The spring made a big difference from the 1500 but does wear the belt
