Will be stiffer than the EX shocks, but the fact they are adjustable more than makes up for it.

So, what does a spring kit and revalving cost for the 450 shocks? I am betting $200 for the new springs, and another 100-150 for the valving, if not more. Plus, it seems most stock 450 shocks are selling for close to $200. That's approaching $600.

You can get new triple rate stage 1 Elkas for a hair over $500. No res or rebound adjust but great shocks that are probably good enough for most riders and novice racers.

Is it worth doing the 450 shock mod? Guess it depends, just wanted to throw out another option.

To me it depends how hard u gonna push the bike and no they would be a step up from the stage one elkas cause they are compression adj and all but ur right for 600-800 bucks u can get a used set of triple rate elkas with the resi and rebound if u find them from someone who just upgraded

If your short on cash, the stock 450r shocks is the way to go. Thats going to be my next upgrade. But like the other guys said, if you have money, get the elkas.

Elka and works are the cheapest of the cheap when it comes to aftermarket shocks. IMHO spending the cash on a 450r shocks better than buying them.

if you ride hard they are nice shocks, you can adjust them down pretty soft like i had mine and still have a plush ride.

mine are for sale too. if you decide to run some look me up :D i love the shocks, but would like the cash more so they have to go. otherwise they wouldnt be off thats for sure.

How much you want for them. I have a set on my KFX 700 that I had revalved and resprung for my weight plus that of the bike. As good or better than stage 1 or 2 elkas. Would like to put some on my 400ex trail bike. Just a back up bike for the most part but fun as can be.

the only way i would do elkas over the 450r shocks would be if u have the tripple rate with rebound and compression adj

U go to gt thunders site or call give them ur body weight and they can ship u a spring kit it turns the shock to a dual rate set up allowing for more play and adjustments and then if u really wanna get wild get it revalved by them or get the valving specks and get another shop to revalve it i had gtt do my rear shock on my 450 and it works amazing and much better than before thats my personal advise if u start buying arms go ahead spend the money and get after market shocks and be done ur already gonna be spending a decent chunk on arms might as well get a nice set up

I very much agree with this statement. I feel the 450R shocks are a better platform to build from than Elkas. The Elka valving piston isn't as good of a design, in my opinion.

If you want good shocks on a budget, go on ebay and search for HLS Essential series. They are selling slightly used HLS shocks for under $300. Otherwise, they can be bought new for $500. Don't get caught up in lack of adjustments, if the shock is sprung and valved well, you don't need the adjustments.

Agreed. I feel the 450r shock is a good platform to start with for sure. What makes it so nice is the adjustments they have, the fact many shock builders know them in and out and can set them up for you properly is also a huge plus.

HLS is worth it as well and about the only other cheaper option I would consider unless you want to get into spending big bucks on things like fox and pep.

Then go ahead and find a kit or set up that is together that way u know they work together another thing is everyone dissing elka is off in the standard travel range they work fine just make sure u get ones with atleast compression and rebound i had a set and they worked fine and i ran houser plus twos but i mean u need to contact unlucky13 i think is his user name he has a full long travel set up i think he was trying to sell it is lone star dc4 arms with elka shock i mean that is if ur planing on doin alot of mx or wide open trails and u could prolly get the whole set for 4-600 they were mine and worked great till my 450 was built
