could be a number of things, how did the valves check? was there much slack in the timing chain, if their stretched they can be noisey. Stock cam or aftermarket??

Any loss in power when you get on it?

check the timing chain tensioner mine was bad and i went through 3 timing chains a piston and rings cylinder and a +3 mm stroker crank and the day it finally let loose i bent both intake valves lol every time i put a new chain in it seemed like it was the tensioner was working but the spring was bad inside of it all the stuff broke due to over heating so while i had it a part i just put all new bearings and everthing just waiting for clutch basket and my motor will be rebuilt ground up fresh everything so lesson learned tail tail sign is when the motor is hard to kick it's out of time

its a stock motor besides the sparks pipe.valve were in spec when it went back together and timing chain was good too.

Check to make sure the head pipe is tight on the cylinder, they are known for loosening up and mine used to make a noise similar to this when it got loose. It was also a tell tale sign this was happening when it started backfiring on deceleration.

Loosen the whole exhaust. Then make sure and torque the head pipe down one turn on each side at a time so it goes in straight. I got in a hurry and put mine in slightly off and it started backfiring on decel, overheating, etc...

I had one 450R I just could NOT get it to seal no matter what. Never figured it out. I ended up getting thin nuts for the exhaust studs and double nutting it on, that did the trick.

The inside of that cylinder has a brass gasket that can cause you a headache when fooling with the head pipe.

Double nutting it was a good idea 400exrider707!
