Hey guys,

Just a quick intro, been a fan of the 250r since they came out but never had the pleasure of owning one. I grew up(and currently live in) the "coal region" of central PA, where, on any given day, 250r's, Tecate's, and Quadracers, among any MX bike there was, were always around town. But the red and white and blue and white 250rs with the gold wheels were just so awesome to us as kids back then.

So, for the last year or so I've been reading and searching on this forum, just trying to get some basic info on the 250R, problems/solutions, parts available, prices, etc. And three weeks ago I found one I really liked(blue.white combo was always my favorite), and the seller was a super nice guy and very upfront. So with limited knowledge of the actual inner workings of the 250R and a budget of less then buying a totally stock, totally mint showroom condition one, I felt this was as good as any I'd find:

My first decent ride on it was totally worth the wait. It is just such a blast!

My plans for it are to get it as reliable as possible. I know with anything mechanical or electrical, there is always a chance for something to fail, but anything I could do to eliminate a break-down in the middle of the woods a few miles from home is worth it to me. I have no real interest in adding any additional performance, I'd be totally happy with a reliable stocker. That being said, I'm sure the suspension/top end would need some attention after 25 years :)

Anyway, for everyone who asks and answers questions here, thanks! I know I have a lot to learn, but it helps having this forum for sure!

congrats on joining the "250r" club! one of the best things i did to my r was put an aftermarket pipe on. oh my what a difference!!!! mine is mostly stock also. when i put the pipe on you could instantly feel a difference. you will also have to do some jetting to get it dialed in, but that is no big deal. good luck and enjoy the ride!

Thanks fellas!, Just got my Honda shop manual yesterday which I looked through cover to cover numerous times already LOL!

That brings me to my first question. Is the factory pipe a huge restriction? Is the stocker at a disadvantage all around to aftermarket pipes in terms of performance? Like I said, I'm really not looking to gain performance, but if it's something that would add overall performance with little to lose in terms of reliablity(if jetted correctly), I'd think about it.

in my opinion the stock pipe compared to aftermarket is it is very restricted. the aftermarket pipe i have may not be the best one out there , but i felt a huge dif one my very fist ride. my buddy took it for a spin and he said the same thing. not saying you need to buy one , just an option.
