Remember that they are reverse threaded so you have to push downward (counterclockwise) to break it loose, Most of the time that gets a lot of people. And remember, loosen the inner nut before the outer nut

If it still don't break loose tap it a few times with a hammer to break free any rust or locktite. Then get some PB Blaster or WD-40 and soak the whole axle nut overnight and then it should break right loose.

And remember drive the axle out the left side.

I had the same problems a few weeks ago when I was putting in my new axle. I had my bike with me for a couple years when I was going to school in the Central coast here in California. Needless to say the salty air played havoc on my lock nut! After soaking it in liquid wrench and WD-40 over night, a giant pipe wrench and a 4foot pipe with three guys pulling on it and it still wouldn't break lose. Also tried heating it up with a torch and tapping with a hammer, neither helped either. So a grinder and a cut off wheel is what took care of mine. I just put all new pieces on that I got from ebay. Mine was at the point of no return but try those other suggestions, hopefully you don't have to resort to the same thing!

WOW!! I've never seen anyone having to cut one off before. I have the durable aluminum nut and it works great.
