I used to own a 2003 400ex and i am now a college student with no money (go figure) and im looking at bikes just because it would be cheaper to ride and/or race. Im 6'6" 265 lbs and was wondering if a 250 fourstroke would be big enough or would i get 450. I know this is a quad forum but i used to be on this site alot and always had good feedback so i thought i would start here. Thank you for any and all advice.

You will definitely want the 450. The 250 struggles with my friend who's only 200lbs.

It all depends on whats done to each bike in my opinion. I am 6'1 and 190 lbs and I had a crf250r. I did do a little motor work ( higher compression pistion, cam, and extensive head and valve work), but it would keep up with average riders on a 450. A good rider on a 450 could handle me no problem though. My 250 ran good, you had to pretty much be sitting on the tank to keep the front on the ground.

Thank you for your input. I rode a Yz250f this weekend but its only my 3-4 time on a bike and the first time on a track. The 250 seemed like it had enough power just curious as if it would get to the point where it would run out of power, since i only got it to low third.

If you are just going to keep the bike stock and want to win races, a 450 is probably the way to go. If you buy a worked 250 or get one cheap enough you could put a little money into and just want to have fun and possibly win, buy the 250.
