Those of you running aftermarket, XR400 or HRC cams on your 400EXs, did you keep your decompressor assemblies? It has to be pressed off your old cam and installed on your new one, but I've been told that the 400EX starter is tough enough to stand up to very high compression without the benefit of the decompressor being installed. I just don't know enough about 4 stroke motors, so I'd like to know who's kept theirs, who hasn't, and any trouble because of it.
Thanks guys:blah

I'm opting for the XR400 cam in my 400, so I'm glad to hear it's a "ready to install" part. However, a friend of mine had a 440 with an aftermarket cam that did not have the decompressor on it. He had heard about the hard starting problem....... It started just fine without the decompressor and I have to say I could see no difference in the way it turned over.

I removed the decompessor when I put in my cam. It starts just like it did before.
