I just got my Pro Design Case saver and when I went to install it I found the fit is less than great. I'm thinking about returning it and ordering a Moose Racing Poly Case Saver P/N: 0920-0038. I've heard that they work and fit better too.

Anyone else have a Pro Design Case Saver and can give some insight?

Also Has anyone gone through the return process with RockyMountainATVMC.com before?

Any thoughts on the Poly Case savers vs. Billet ones? Holz makes them too but not for the 400ex.

btw, it also seems I may have stripped out the bottom hole for the case guard bolt, cause it won't tighten

whats wrong with it lol? pro design is what almost everyone runs lol:ermm:
and for the stiped hole just helicoil it or tap it out to a 1/4 inch bolt hole

I have had a problem with the pro design case saver when I bolted mine up it was not even protecting the case it was like behind the chain and if the chain popped off my case would have been ruined.

I have a moose billet aluminum one now bolts up great and works just fine go with poly for sure though not the billet aluminum I am going to be getting a poly one here soon.

And for the stripped hole I had the same exact problem with the bottom hole on mine. Like stated by 01boneless you got to helicoil it but after it has been helicoiled you have to be carefull or it will strip right out again. 400ex's have major problems with stripping out bolt holes in the motor. I do not know why?

I don't have any help with your case saver, I still have a stock one. But I have returned things with RM before and they are very helpful and will handle it completely. No worries about that.

Okay, I'm calling RM tomorrow, then gonna order the Moose poly one at the local shop because I can't find them online.

I bought the Pro Design one because it's what I see most people run but now I have no idea why. Like I said the fit was less than perfect and it sits almost behind the chain as someone else mentioned. I don;t see how it could provide much protection for the case in the event the chain snaps. The stock one is better IMO.

Yep, just got off the phone with them. They said I'm responsible for the return shipping and to include the packaging and a copy of the invoice but that it's no problem. Another reason I'll keep ordering from them

Kinda crappy they're making you pay the shipping. They sold you a part that didn't fit.

I'm not gonna hold it against them, they didn't have to take it back at all. Or they could have charged a restocking fee. Both of which a local parts dealer would have done.

I just ordered the Moose one off amazon too. Those Poly ones are expensive for just a case saver though. $42.95! But worth it if it actually works. These are popular with the pro mx guys

Buddy of mine had a poly one on his 450r, chain jumped and it trashed the chain and the saver but not the case.

Im actually running an odd combo. I took the pro design saver and combined it with the stock outer guard. Works well imho.

Poly guards are far superior to the metal, especially when they are molded to fit the cases perfectly. They absorb the energy, instead breaking the bolts off.

I'm with you on that CJM. I also use the T.M. Design chain guide that bolts on to the rear skid. Feel alot more comforable having that than the factory guide.

I did the same thing as CJM did. I put my DG case saver on top of my stock one using the supplied spacers and it works out better in my opinion.

DG case saver with stock case saver trimmed to fit behind it. just seems to work better and looks to protect better fitting the stock case saver behind the aftermarket ones. I did the same thing on a buddies bike with a differant brand saver, I think it was a Pro Design.

jman you misunderstood me.

Mine is setup with the aftermarket saver then the little stock cage guard over that.

I want to get a poly one, they can and will save your cases if something happens.

I was looking to get a case saver before (after my brother's chain bunched up on the front sprocket, luckily not damaging the case) and so I ordered one. However, it was an aluminum piece and after I received it, I read about the disadvantages, and how a poly saver was better. I began looking and didn't feel like paying the $40-50 for one. I decided to make my own. I ordered a ~1/2" sheet of poly on ebay, and cut out the shape needed, drilled the holes, and mounted it up. With my recent overhaul I painted it flat black...
I think it came out pretty good.

I would do that, but I don't really have a supply of poly to use.

Do you mind linking where you got the poly from on ebay? I can make my own. All ya need is a jigsaw really.

I don't remember the store.
But yea, a jig saw is all I used.

So you just searched 1/2 thick polyurethane?

Reece616

I'm not sure if it was exactly 1/2" or what but you could measure the stock, or take a tape measure and see how thick you'd like.
You'll get the best results searching the thickness you'd like + "polyurethane sheet".
I just checked, there's a bunch and different colors. I'm not sure what hardness you'd like. I think mine was a 80-90A.
