Do any of you guys know where to find one for a 02 1500 extended cab? I'm looking for a box to put one 12" under the back seat. I already have a shallow mount sub from my single cab that i used to have. Also where you you guys usually put the amp? I still want to have a little space open on one side under the seat if possible. thanks for any help

I put my amp behind the rear bench seat. There are a couple brackets that it sits on in the middle and I made some holders out of steel pipe hangers to keep it in place. The only custom made boxes for that application that I can think of are from catalogs like crutchfield or truck parts catalogs. They're expensive. MTX has some sweet thunderforms but they usually have the sub in them already and are designed for the MTX subs.

subthump.com is where I bought a box for my colorado. I'm sure they make a box for your application.

most of the vehicle specific ones for a truck like that are 10". This is the one I was going to get for my truck. It's a universal one, but whatever.

i bet those are something to see, plywood and 2x2's for a sub box? no way in hell id build something for a sub in other than MDF or birch.

subthump.com will be your best bet and best prefabbed boxes. I have one for my crew cab and its well built and sounds great

Good God.. 2 12"s UNDER the back seat?? Wayyy to small for 2 12"s.. Even 1 12"

Smaller sub in proper box would sound WAY better than a bigger sub in too small of a box.

Dont know what sub your using but here is kickers shallow mount specs..

Recommend Sealed Box Volume: 1.00 - 4.60 Cubic Feet

Recommend Vented Box Volume: 1.75 - 2.25 Cubic Feet

Most of those under seat boxes are .50-.90 cubes..

Sure they'll fit, but I could roll up in an identical truck with 1 10" in that air space and sound 10x better and louder. FACT. It's crazy how many people don't realize that 2 12" subs in .92 cu ft is going to sound worse than 1 10" in .92 cu ft. There is no debate here, it's a fact.

I have 1 10" sub in a custom box that I built under the rear seat. It is the worst sounding sub that I have ever had. It is on the low side of the required volume and it practically destroyed my box.

ZBlaster

In order to do 2 12's you'll probably need a seat lift of some sorts, and glass the bottom of the box... still you'll be cutting close on airspace. Do 1 good 12" or a pair of 10's... or a few 8's

I'd like to see 4 SA8's forward firing, ported on the sides with 4" aeros.

chill dude, im not arguing with you,lol

i already had these 12's from my old firebird, so i just got a dual box and used them in my truck. sure they sounded better in the bird cuz of the bigger box, but im not trying to win sub comps. its good enough. theres not much room in trucks unless i were to build a box that took up the whole back seat. which i cant do

Thats straight nasty. Never thought much about 8's, well i guess until just now. I know you are the resident sound guy, but just out of curiousity, if you had to guess what that would cost the average joe what would it be?

My next truck is getting SA-8's after that vid. Straight slappin!

Price of how I would run it-
4x SA-8's = $540
XS D3400 = $260
Mechman 270 Alt = $450 (I already have it so just added in price even though it's overkill for this setup)
AQ2200D = $430

Grand Total without wiring or box material = $1,680

I'm sure it'd be about $1900-$2000 with box material and wiring starting from nothing.

I couldn't get a pic because it is too tight in there. Bascially it is sitting on top of the seat/seatbelt anchor cables behind the bench seat.

Pro box makes them, MTX thunderform, Q logic, are all great box's.. You will pay for them, but again they are really nice.. Or you could get a cheapy from ebay.. Most of the big box's have a amp rack on it, so you can mount the amp under the seat aswell..

I have a reg cab. But have my amp stealthed away under the seat, with nothing visible..

Those are great options but the only thing I don't like about having the amp mounted to the box is that its an all in one package for thieves. I've had my care broken into twice, once in a parking lot in college, and once they broke into my mom's garage when I was still home. At college they just took the amp because the 2 15" subs and the box were too big to get away quickly. The second time at the garage, they took everything and the amp was mounted to the box so it was just that much easier.

Now that I'm getting older, I don't really need to rattle the windows like in the video (although it was awesome!). I just need to get the good sound quality with the proper thump. I'll be switching it up and I will probably go with 1 10" or 2 8" subs in one box.

Thumpin440ex
09-23-2011, 03:58 PM
Yah I hear ya. But one thing we must learn about thieves.. If they want it bad enough they will get it.. Yah I am all about a good sound now, not breaking windows, been there and done that in my old silvy.. 2x12's 1200w, Bostons in the doors on there own amp.. Loud wasn't the word.. Would hit constant 13x's db's at my buddies shop.. I since have grown up some.. Set up now consists of infinity kappas in the rear pillars, 6.5's in the doors, just running off the HU, a 800w amp, 1 12 kicker.. One good 10, 5-800 watts will sound great in a ec truck.. :)

I have two downfire 12's under my backseat of my ex. cab, along with two amps mounted behind the back seat. It makes a bit of noise. By the way, I got them used off a friend for 250 bucks. I had two alpine R 10s in big ol bandpass ported boxes with one amp filling up the ex cab portion of my s10. It put my two 12s to shame, but, the rear part of my truck was useless and i had quite a bit more money tied up in my system too. Including the fried fosgate amp.

The Alpine Type R subs are pretty nice. It just sucks to pay the extra $ for a name.

And as far as thieves go, I think I heard a while back that they are in and out in less than 5 minutes. It would take longer to get my amp out.

I always ran my wiring underneath the foot trim by the doors. Alot of the factory wiring is ran this way.

It's because they're the best subs and amps in their price range. Even with KickStart or my suggestions, 99% of the people on here end up with 2 Sony Xplod subs and a Pyle amp.

x2. Quite annoying. Spend alot of time trying to help them get a good setup and all your time was wasted and everything you said was ignored when they go with kickers or pioneers because their friend has them and they "slam" :ermm:

No this thread has really helped me out, atleast it will down the line. I need a pickup truck, and I like good loud quality sound, tough to do it in a truck i thought. I have about $1400 bucks in my avalanches system and its nice and clean, but really not loud. The other thing, is it was a midgate replacement since the avys have that fold down gate. I just never liked the sound I got out of regular subs and boxes in a pickup truck.

theres alot of people like that too,lol

loudest ive heard was a full size van with comp 15's. i dont know what kind they were cuz they had no logo on them, but the voice coils were huuuge. he said he had 20k watts goin to them. and the whole body of the van was flexing like crazy.

second loudest ive heard is a durango with 8 12" JL's.

i heard a van with 4 18's in a wall right behind the seat, but it actually wasn't as loud as the 15's or 12's
