did you have the cylinder bored to the specific piston your using? Also could be your valve seals. How did you break the motor in?

I think i do...i bought it with 3 hours on it. Then i put a new head and hot cam in and it had brand new valve seals put in. ..i broke it in how i ride it hard

Its really hard to tell..you could tear it back down and inspect it for damages and measure the cylinder. If it only smokes a tiny bit when cold i wouldn't worry about it until it gets bad. Then rebuild it.

If your positive it has new valve seals, then it HAS to be the piston rings. Did you build the motor or you bought it just rebuilt?

No i bought it from a guy who rebuilt it and and when i got it i put a head. With brandnew seals and valvs in it when i got it it had 3 hrs on it already the rings aee susposably brand new. ..

My engine was totally fresh and smokes some on initial start up.. I am thinking the rings some how were not staggered.. I am going to dump some ajax, K1 down the cylinder and see if it will help seat the rings.. As far as performance it runs like a raped ape..

It is a old school hot rod thing.. I have seen it work before.. If the engine was put together, the ring gaps were lined up it is possible that they have not yet rotated out.. There are diff theories to this aswell(ring rotation) rings will usually find a seat though before they ever become aligned up( which can cause the smoking) Also if the piston was dunked/soaked in oil before assembly, could be a reason( some will say it doesn't do anything) we have always doused the cyl with a little bit of oil, then some on top of the piston before start up..
