I machined my own a long time ago. I believed that the alluminium would help disapate the heat. However if your running real lean and the motor is cooking, it aint gonna do ****. Your better off putting a gauge inline so you can see your temp. If its jetted right, would shouldnt really have an issue.

They're basically useless, there just isn't enough surface area there to dissipate any useful amount of heat. Some people think "every little bit helps", and if you are one of those people then go ahead and spend the money. But honestly, you'd probably need ten of them (160 fins total) to make a whopping 3 degrees of difference.

Does it freeze where you live? If you're willing to do a little bit of work and run a little more risk, I can give you a few pointers to improve cooling efficiency and reduce engine temps.

isn't a trx250r two stroke? there is no oil cooler on those?

in theory they do work, but they need to be really big. I played around w/ them. I didn't notice any difference. Placed in the wrong spot, they can make a motor run hotter.
