im rebuilding a 400ex and now aside from the timing and cam chain tensioner, it runs. I got a cometic gasket kit and all the metal gaskets are install but i have a ton of mohagony colored o rings and blue dowel looking things. What are these for and where do they go?

Damn, I hope my gasket kit didn't come with new valve seals, because I already had my local shop order new ones. Oh well.

Yea the little dowell looking things are valve seals, i believe mine were greenish but yea thats what they are and as stated about the red-ish o rings are for the 4 valve adjustment caps.

99% of the time those orings dont go bad, but if you have new, why not replace them

i just put the motor of this 400ex together and it starts and runs fine but when you give it a little gas and its kinda funny when its lowering back down. it doesnt backfire or anything and it might be the 11:1 compression but i dont know. when your putting the timing chain on and the motors at tdc, do the marks on the sprocket go horizontal with the ground or the head of the motor? all the cam lobes face down and the difference is just a few degrees

they line up with the top of the head and all lobes must facedown!

The 2 marks line up with the head with the other mark facing up, and yes lobes down.
