Hi on my 400ex the decompression is jamed so it ticks, if i take the decompression off the stock cam shaft will it affect how the bike runs?

I believe it won't turn over after the first crank because it's not decompressing the cylinder, but that's just my guess. I'm not a mechanic but that's what the thing is in there for.

Press the whole decomp off the cam and you'll be fine. None of the aftermarket cams use a decomp either...
Take the little spring and plunger out of the hole in the head under the decomp.

i think you also have to weld shut the oil holes in the cam shaft
i would be interested in the spring and plunger if you get rid of you decompressor
