Has anyone changed one?

Just took a quick glance and it almost looks like the engine has to be split to get it out?? That cannot be right.......

Remove the air filter box and the front engine mount bolt raise the engine up then remove the starter.

If you haven't already got a new starter, look for one either on eBay by DBelectric or www.dbelectrical.com That is a local shop to me and I have had great service from them over the years. They also have the cheapest price ive found on a starter for these bikes. I'm running their starters in both my 80's.

Thanks for the advice!

I bought this bike used (2000 model) about 4-5 years ago and the starter acted up from the get-go, but we managed to make it last this long.

When it went out I nearly passed out with the suzuki pricing! Even with the people that I could get a decent discount made me want to put a pullstarter on it.

I checked Ebay and bought one of the DB electrical ones for $40 TMD, so we shall see how it goes. For $40 bucks, I won't be mad if it does not work out, but the $129 ones were too expensive to gamble with, IMO.

I'm glad you got a deal. Once you get the original starter off, you can tell that the DB starter is bigger then the stock one.
