What's up everyone. I'm new to the forumn. I have a 2004 Honda 400ex that has the 440 big bore kit, lexx exhaust, lowered 2 inches in rear, silver plastics, and lots of other extras. What all info you guys know of the big bore kit? It was done before I got it and was just wondering info on it. Thanks.

welcome to the forum bud. well the 440 bb kit generates ALOT of head and without a way to cool it will not last long so they need a spal fan or a oversize oil tank or and over size cooler i recomend at least the fan and oversize tank. also they tend to pull head studs because of the high compression so its best (not a must) to have HD head studs in stalled so you will not have to fix blown head gasets all the time . but if jetted right and well built with cooling and realiability in mind they will last a long time and are pretty powerfull. now more info on your quad would be helpful as to how well it was built.

I'm not to sure about all the build. I traded my old mud bike for it (had the itch for another sport bike) and the guy who had it before him had it built buy a shop here in mississippi. I ran it for about 30 miles this weekend. I haven't had any trouble out of it so far. But I've only had about two day worth of riding on it mainly trails and dirt road riding.

And where could I get a spal fan and over size cooler for it. I kept checking it this weekend and with all the riding I did it never seemed to get that hot. But like I said I'm new to the 400ex's.

Spal fan can be had on ebay, you want a 4 inch puller type and mount it to the side of the oil cooler that faces the engine.

As for a larger cooler, many different ways to do it. Simply buy a larger cooler and adapt it to fit, add an add on transmission cooler plumbed into the stock setup, etc.

head studs are critical on a 440 b/c of the heat they create. That head allows your exhaust studs to be yanked out if it gets to hot. Id worry about this later on if you have problems, leave it alone for now imho.

I've talked to a few people and they said all they do is run 93 octane gas in there's. And no fans or anything. I might just eventually get a fan and put on my stock oil cooler and run with thy but for now I'm just going to get some 93 gas once my 87 runs out and run as is.

If its jetted right you usually dont have too many issues, but most run hot.

Could also be you have a 10;1 piston not an 11:1-which is where you start to run into trouble. Higher the compression more the heat it generates.

How did you wire up your fan? On a tootle switch or something? And I've tried to find out more about mine but they don't much on it. The guy who had it before me said he hasn't had any troubles with it and he's had it since April.

Toggle switch**

Mine is wired straight to the battery with a 5amp inline fuse and just a toggle switch.

IE:
BATTERY> Inline fuse holder with 5amp fuse> To switch> back to fan. I grounded the fan and switch (it lights up) to the frame near the coil.

Theres an install thread for the fan if you go to the sticky linked in my signature. For the record used pieces of metal as they show but used zip ties to hold it in place with no issues since installing it like 2 years ago.

Ok thanks for all the help guys. But the 440 kits are pretty reliable to all of y'all? I don't want to hbe to rebuild it every year

So long as its jetted right and you take care of it yes it should be fine.
