Anybody know if the 86/87 airboxes are the same as the 88/89?

I know a few years ago there used to be a diagram that said everything that was the same/different among the 4 years but did not see it now.

Thanks

they are all the same, the only difference I know of is the 86 did not have the resignator port in the intake tube. But the boxes are all the same.

I know the oem 86 box is differenent then the other years...right where the rear shock is on the front side of the box is straight across. The later years had a detent for shock clearence.

Very minor things about the 86 250r that make it different the the other years...

i do not need the intake tube- i just need the actual airbox.

I just bought another R and they previous owner had over-tightened the air filter and collapsed the ring the air filter clamped on.

so the only difference is more shock clearance then from 87-89? is it pretty common that the 86 hits?

It was because of the linkage change. I believe you can run either, if needed you can shim the back up so it pitches the older style box so it will clear.

I have interchanged 86 and 89 air boxes on 86 and 89 frames without incident. All were stock link setups for their year.

did you try airbox support rings? I had an airbox that was overtightened, the rings solved it. JL ATV sells them.

I have a extra set of airbox rings...make an offer if you want them.
Also have a 86 box if you want to go that route? Not sure what year you need by the post....
