+1 on 400Exs is supposed to be worse than a +0 forwad. I have had both and I can't tell much of a Diff. I liked the +0 forward better tho...

JRD's are the exact same as roll design...

02-24-2003, 04:22 PM
yeah u dont wanna go 1 forward on 400exs it will make them handle worse, on a 250r shorter swingarm and plus 1 a arms are better, longer swingarm and +1 +2 +3 not 1 forward a arms all work good, lathers got a pretty nice +3 long travle set up with quad rate elkas for a decent price id pm him about them

The +1 forward works better on 2-strokes. I read something abou it somewhere. Gets power to the ground better.

I believe you can run +4 on a stock width frame.. how do I figure?
My friend has a Laeger +3 pro trax with a stock width Laeger frame with 3-2 wheels.

Do u have a stock length swingarm on your practice bike also? I have a stock swingarm...I am to the point where I am not sweating it, and just hoping for the best.

Dont get the +1's. I still have to figure out why guys are still building the +1's for the 400ex. Doug Roll is only doing because it was easy to copy off his already existing design of the 250r's which worked good for that bike. I highly reccommend a +1 swingarm, with 3+0 front end. The +1 front end on the 400ex is going to drive your front end down very bad on take off when leaving the face of a jump.

please dont tell me that!!!!! They are ordered..shocks and all

Call and cancel. You will regret it later if you dont. The +1 swingarm is all you need to keep your front end down in the turns. The +1 forward arms are going to drive the front end downard on jumps, esp. if you got a +1 swingarm.

I can only assume that JRD built a jig off of Doug Roll's a-arms.

Call and cancel.

Will I be ok with the 3+0 a-arms and a stock swingarm??

I just called two very, very reputable companies. They both told me this is a good setup...even with the stock swingarm. Thanks for your help guys.

I bet neither one of those people have jumped 90ft doubles in 4 gear on a 400ex with +1's. The +1 forward is meant to keep the front end down in the turns, however, it dips the front end badly on jumps. To correct the turning problem, go with the +1 in the back, not the front.

I know what I am talking about. I hate to see you end up with something that you will not like.

hey ylw400, have you ever heard of merrell extreme a-arms? they make +4 +0 a-arms that are REALLY nice. maybe you should check them out because i haven't heard of +3 +0's from anybody.

don't get +1fwd stick with +3,+0. i heard from guys that it will make the nose of the 400ex lighter and youll have to hit the brake in the air, anyone hear about this

my a-arms are +1 forward and they handle fine, my friends housers are just plus 2's and i can't tell a difference. It flys strait and corners like its knowbodys business. I plan on getting a +1 1/4 swingarm soon but i dont think i'd be worrying about it. I think we just think about these things to hard.:ermm:

Well, I will tell you this now, the one guy rides for East Coast ATV....that was one of the companies I called, and the other company was Nacs....The guy said he ran 3+1 Gibsons with a stock swingarm and full Axis.. The only reason he changed his swingarm, was because it cracked.

A4strokeguy....are you running 3+1 or 2+1?

If it handles that bad, I will get rid of them, I had a pair of +2 Housers, wasnt happy with the width and sold them the next day...lol

As far as the nose feeling light, lean forward....some of these things I can compensate for in the air. But I will give you all an honest report on how it handles.....If it handles like crap, I will swallow my pride...and say "you all told me so"

Didnt Mighty Moe run 3+1 with TCS?

No Juggalo, I will look into it though. I think +4 even with 4-1 offset wheels would be way over 50"

"No Juggalo, I will look into it though. I think +4 even with 4-1 offset wheels would be way over 50"

Im almost 90% sure that plus 4 with 4+1 offset rims will put you at 50 with your shocks set to medium sag.

I am running +3 on and ex frame, 4+1 offset and am at about 48".

I checked out your page 4strokeguy, thats a nice EX.....Well I called a total of 3 places now and they have all told me 3+1 is fine with 19" shocks....The last place, told me that they are only like 5/8 forward. I am relieved now.

I was running Axis, til they got stupid with me on phone....
They stuck me with a piece-o-crap spring

Anyway, I got the Herrmanns +3+0, you can get them for 775$...They are in my opinion 2nd to the best front end....Tied with Walsh, just behind the 1st place protrax.

Herrmann's dont have a male studded ball joint anywhere that will break or bend. They are like the walsh's, only 350$ cheaper. JRD uses a male studded ball joint on the top arm, just like Roll Design. I have spoken to 2 guys that have broken the top ball joint studs.
