When you guys polish I know you supposed to polish until you get the black residue, but do you let this dry before buffing off?

when i polish just using mothers and a rag...before i found the ease of a dremel.....i applied it..let it sit for about 15 minutes...rubbed it in..then let it sit for another 10 minutes..then got a clean rag and rubbed it off..it seemed to work pretty good but very time consuming....heres the difference between rubbing with rag and a dremel

this was with a dremel

no...get the stripper to remove the paint...you still hvae to sand it down..start with 400 and move up to 600...and keep going if you feel the need less scratching...one you get the metal how you want...a few small scratches or no scratches...then apply the mothers..rub in..let it dry...and get a clean rag to rub it out

Yeah... what he said... You work is good for just using mothers but honestly give it a try with the right wheels and compounds... You will be amazed.

If you want it to really shine you have to put some sanding and other work than just stripping and polishing.... It's the only way to make the stuff look like chrome. Also it's easier to polish after that..
