What the difference between and 04 CDI and an 03

Im not sure if i mentioned this before but i am doing a complete build, from a bare frame and i had my old 2003 wiring harness and i have a 2004 wiring harness off this quad i just bought.. I got to looking and the 04 CDI is quite a bit bigger than the 03.

Wasnt sure because on all the OEM part lists it says 99-04 is the same.

I know they are both stock, but i just wasnt sure which one i should go with..

the 03 is in better shape but i wasnt sure if they really changed anything on the 04.

I am going with a no, that they havent changed anything but i didnt know.

they should be identical im guessing one is not stock because they would be the same size. but ya no matter what they should interchange as long as the connectors are the same

05+ is different and will not work on older bikes, no idea why the 04 is larger than the 03 tho.

Coincidentally anyone want an 05+ CDI? Its nice, I just bought the wrong one once.

Yep connectors are the same, they both say shuemaker (or whatever it says i cant really read it)

But they are both stock.. it kinda had me stumped. I got on an OEM parts list and it shows on the picture that the 03 is supposed to be bigger than my 03..

Oh idk i guess i will just go with the 03,(OR WHATEVER IT IS! LOL) it worked fine, i was just wondering if you guys knew something that i didnt, well about the wiring.. you guys know alot more than i know haha

I will keep my eye out CJM, dont know anyone off the top of my head but alot of friends ride 400's from all years

ya good call like cjm said they only interchange 99-04 and im pretty sure 05-present .make sure the big box isnt an 05 because they have reverse wires in there where the 99-04 dont

lol good times.. i cant decide between DWT, HIPER, or Just aluminum beadlocks.. Im not really that crazy about hipers because EVERYONE has them, and i wanna be unique.

I prefer the DWT beadlocks. Had an older set with the billet centers and they were much stronger than the DWT alumalites I have now (comparable to factory wheels tho). Shoulda never sold those beadlocks, but an 8" wheel dont work unless your into mx.

lol i enjoy having every bit of ground clearance i can get without going to 22" because they drag out sooo much power low end with stock sprockets.. I have found that i really like a 14T front and 38T rear sprockets with 20" rims.. that setup works great for me.
