Back in the day, the 350X 3-wheeler motor was a popular conversion into the 250r frame.

You could do a search in the hybrid section, someone did it and posted lots of pics.

Just because. To each is own. Not saying its the best hybrid to build but its better than the dude in the hybrid section that was talking about putting a yz426 in a warrior chassis

hey now its been done with great success

I knew you would see this. I just wouldn't choose a warrior chassis. No harm intended.

I still don't get it. The 250r chassis is among the best, yes, but the 400EX chassis is still very good. With all the same gussets and suspension mods, you'd have a top-notch machine. Is all the trouble of a engine conversion worth it?

Now a days I would say no. Back before the 400 the 350 conversion was the way to go if you wanted a 4stroke.

the reason i want to do it, is i want a reliable 4 stroke, i dont want a race motor, and im not racing or anything like that, just ditch and field riding, and every now and then i go to off road parks, so tahts why i was wondering

Nothing is more reliable then a 250r mine starts second kick anytime i throw a leg over it. They literally cost nothing to maintain compared to a 4 stroke...granted a 400ex is a very simple machine and its also built like a tank but they feel so slow and lifeless to me personally

oh, id be fine with that tho, all i do is mainly woods ride, then some field and ditch

best bet is to try and trade someone for a 400ex

you need to get rid of the 250r all together. If you dont want a race bike then get away from that bike all together, a 400ex would fit you much better than that 250r would

I agree with 01GT. The 400EX is the perfect machine for what you want to do and if you want, you can make it a little more sporty without affecting relaibility.
My 400EX doesn't get ridden much anymore but if I only could keep one, it might be that one.

the reason i wanted to put the 400ex in my 250r frame, is cause im not gonna dump money on the suspesnion, its all gonna go into the motor, and i love the way my 250r use to ride

It's your money so waste it how you want but that machine you have will never be what you want. You want mostly a trail bike then get a trail bike. 250r is a down to the core race bike, they can be used for trails but will not touch the 400ex on trails both in stock form in my opinion. Does your bike have any suspension done to it? If so swap it to another bike and put stock suspension on the 250r.

I've owned both and the 400ex was excellent for trails even in stock form when I first got it

What's the bike setup for? Mx, trails, tt, etc? I still wouldn't do a 400ex motor. It'll cost you way more than you want to spend for something that won't really benefit you

you would be surprised at how many of the suspension parts will bolt onto a 400ex frame.

if you have the stock stuff for your r you could put it all back on and sell it stock.

then bolt the aftermarket stuff onto a 400 frame and roll out. the shocks, arms, and some stuff will work on it.

do like me and put a banshee motor in the R, I did it a few years back just to try it, but in the end its way more work and time then its worth. I would just either sell the 250r or trade it for a nice 400ex thats setup with suspension or maybe even one that setup for XC racing

Thats the first time Ive seena shee motor in a r frame. Thats pretty slick. Ive seen them in YFZ chasis but never that. Thats awesome. Do you still have the quad?

no that was just kind of a one time build just for the hell of it. my brother had his banshee tore down to the frame for powdercoating and I had an old junk 250r frame and ALOT of spare parts, enough to put a bike together. it had a 2 into 1 carb and and I made a kind of custom exhaust. I made a 2 into 1 header pipe and for the expansion chamber part I used an old 250r fmf fatty pipe and silencer. and for the rear end I just used the banshee swingarm, shock, axle, etc. and welded up a different crossmember on the frame to bolt the shock too cause I had to use the banshee air box.

I've seen a banshee motor in a 250r frame, and there's just no good way to mount the radiator.

However, I have always wanted to do the Lonestar Outlaw banshee. It's got all the proper mounting for a banshee motor, radiator, and banshee plastics, but it uses 250r suspension and all the superior geometry associated with. Drool, the ultimate duner.
