Never had problems with a stock cdi.

That depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for stock replacement then a NOS 88 or 89 box would be great. If you are looking for an overall performance upgrade then go for the entire CR ignition upgrade. My 88 stocker runs awesome with a refurbished stock ignition system. Most problems with 250r ignition systems are due to age and not design IMO. If you can find NOS elcetrical parts it may be worth it to replace the CDI or stator as opposed to an entire 500+ $ CR ignition system.

I would just use a stock one. I have experienced and read about several problems with the dyna ones!

I don't know if they still make them but a lot of people youst to run a cdi box on a 250R called Ricks Hot Shot box. If I remember right it is red in color.

But if you want the best ignition system possible for your 250R go with the CR250 ignition system.

It has a better timing curve . It gives it better throttle response . More pull . Just all around better . It's 2001 technology not 1985 out dated technology.
