Where the hell is the fuel/pilot screw on our carb. It is different from the large idle adjuster screw (manual calls it a Throttle stop screw) right? Can someone show me a picture of it? Hopefully a pic that shows it on a quad that is fully assembled, cause I need to adjust it while the quad is running.

it is different than the idle adjustment screw.

it is a small flat head on its own on the bottom side of the carb on the intake side.

i will get a pic in a sec.

pilot screw is the label on that pic and it can be adjusted on the machine with a small screw.

thanks, I see a brass screw near there, but I think it's some type of carb drain plug because It's fully seated and when I turn it fuel starts to come out of that small hose that goes between the swingarm and the back of the engine.

as rinconrider suggested:

ill add to it,

it is a brass one that is in the cylinder on back side of the carb. theres no hose attached to it or anything.

Wait, I think I know where it is. Is it downward facing, on the engine/front side of the carb, behnid the idle ajustment screw?

yeah, it is underneath and just behind the bowl. it is underneath the cable for the idle adjustment screw. it is on the outlet side not the intake side.

it is the yellow circle NOT the arrow. the arrow is the main jet and will not be seen when the bowl is on.

the arrow was already on the picture lol.

it can be, just use a small screw driver though.

2.25 turns out from lightly seated is stock

what did you do to want to change it? bigger pilot jet or something?

Yes, went from a 38 to a 42 pilot jet because i read that it makes for easy starting and that you wouldn't have to use the choke, but it's actually been more difficult. if I can;t get it right i might try a 40 pilot instead

go to the 40 pilot and leave the f/a screw at 2.25 turns out. this should get it going nicely. you wont have to use the choke any more either. just a few pumps of the throttle then hit the button and it will fire up.

I think, but I'm not sure, that '05 and newer 400s have a different a/f mixture screw. It's like the shape of a circle with 1/4 chunk chopped off of one side. It's hard to describe but you need a special tool to adjust it, you can't use a straight headed screw dirver. If you do manage to get it turned all the way out though I would take an air grinder and cut a slot in it so you could use a straight headed driver, or get an '04 or older to replace it with.

that is correct, i did not look at what year machine you had. it is a D shape tool that will be needed to adjust it.

with the 40 pilot in there it shouldnt have to be adjusted anyway.
