250x 400ex front end

im new here and fairly new to quads. i know about them. i have a small budget but want to fix up my 250x. i have read the threads here and i know there are a million ones about this but i need help. where should i start. i want to do the 400ex shock conversion and i found an 06 400ex frame and parts, what parts do i need and will the 06 parts fit. also the steering stem just needs the stops cut off?

you can use the 400ex a-arms and tie rods, try to find some trx450R shocks they will be much better and I'm not positive about the stem. this will give you a +2 stance on the from end so you will need a wider axle, hubs, or spacers for the rear

oh and a 2001 raptor rear shock will bolt right on and give you a huge improvment.....I happen to have one for sale;)

really? okay the thing is i saw an 06 400ex frame and other parts on Craigslist so i will use the 400ex shocks. if i come across a pair of 450s and the rear ill pick them up. thanks for the advice. i first have to see about the 87 frame and engine and what shape its in too see if it is worth it. will 400ex hubs work? i heard the 250x front is alittle different.

if I remember correctly the only difference between a 250x and 300x is the kickstart and decompression mechanism.... the 400ex hubs will work seem as your taking everything else off the 400ex

You should not put the 400ex shocks on it. The 450r shocks demolish them.

be sure to get the DJ shock relocation bracket or make your own. the top shock mounts need to be moved in order to run the other shocks..added travel. and tommy got it on the 250x/300ex thing, the 300's just have a longer stroke and reverse also. i've heard 450 shocks can be a bit stiff on the 300's but depending on your weight i think they'd be fine. i wish i wouldve got them for my last 400. 400ex carb will also work and give you more power.

Tommy, the cranks are also different and will not interchange.

I also do not recomend the 400ex hubs. The angle is off and it cause a slight push in the front end. I've built several 300ex's and I really don't like the 400ex hubs on them.

I highly recomend you buy Tommy's raptor rear shock.

thanks guys maybe ill not buy the 400 shocks and look for 450r. any thing on 250r hubs or axle.
