changed my mind about mx cause i went to the national busco beach tt race, my buddy races it on a 450r. and i plan on running tt now heres is what i plan on doing to it.

a-arms not sure what kind
450r shocks
lowering kit
dwt red labels up front
not sure what kind of back wheel.
widen it to 49-50 inch mark
full pipe eventually
maybe pep shocks if i can find some used for reasonably price
hoosier tires
pro taper se high bend bars
sway bars

Do some re-search before you go putting into something. Look at some peoples setups online and go to more races, walk the pits see what works for the winners. Thats the best way, I know most of us don't know much about TT but I know that tires play a big role.

I'm running flat track ovals on my 400. The 450R shocks will not fit the factory a-arms with the front lowering kit that you can buy on ebay for cheap. The springs are too large of diameter and will hit the upper a-arm. If you go to aftermarket a-arms, the lowering kits aren't designed for most of them and rely on the shock to for lowering. I don't think a factory 450R shock can be adjust low enough without someone modifying it. I ended up getting some Houser A-arms (+2 or 3, got them used) and Works G-series shocks (also used) and am very happy with that combo. I feel that with a ZPS set-up, the rebound adjustment helps with weight transfer. Rath seems to make the nicest sway bars. Hoosier and American Racer make nice tires, I think the Hoosiers can be run stock with success on our track here, the American Racers needed grooving in my opinion to be effective.

Hope that helps!

He started racing again and after we paint my frame and get new plastics we are sending my quad to him and he is gonna buy us some used stuff to get it set up for it then were gonna pay him. Also can you post some pics of your ex on this thread so I can see it and how its set up

I am new to TT myself. Only been to a few races so far, so I'm still trying figure out what works and what doesn't. The best advice I can give you is to find someone that will be at most of the races that has experiance and doesn't mind to help you. The advice of people who have been doing it for a longtime is worth alot. I have went to prob 10 races and talked with one guy and it has saved me alot of time in trial and error and money. Tires are a big thing. We start out at a track with 10psi and go up from there. Pressure is a big deal. Half a pound of air will change weather you break loose or not. Suspension is another big part. Get some good shocks that are made for TT, I do not suggest getting the lowering links for the front, they change the angle of the shock and you can over load the shock way easier, I had a set and I couldn't get my shocks stiff enuff with them so i took them off. Get your tires, swaybar, suspension and all that set up before you go to putting a bunch of engine mods in it. Control is a real big part. You can have more power than anyone on the track but if you can't handle your bike its pointless.if ya need anything just pm or reply to the forum.

If you were at the Busco National did you see me out there on my Blue 400ex running in Production C class. I tell you what that track was scary fast down that back straight. I don't know how to post a picture of my bike up here but have had people say it is the nicest 400ex they have ever seen in there life!

The main thing about TT is getting your bike setup right, you will never have the same setup at every track so keep that in mind. Sway bar plays a big part in TT you will need to play around with the sway bar in practice until you feel comfortable.

You normally always want a soft tire on all four corners, Hoosier D10 is a good compound. and for American Racers SD23 is a good compound. I am not a big fan of American Racer tires I think they are way too thin and pop too easily. If you choose Razr TT tire get the yellow label.

ONLY use lowering kit for the rear shock. do not use the front kits they are cheap and break very easily, last thing you want is to is break a front lowering kit going 80mph into a hairpin turn go ahead and spend the extra money and get the shock lowered the right way.

If you build the motor do not got over a 450cc bore or the AMA will get on your *****. And probably not let you race that day, HP is not to big of a deal. I mean you want a lot of HP for sure, but not maximum crazy HP

You want a short swingarm -2 or -3 to get them tires under you're butt or else you are just going to be out the spinning tires. The short swingarm makes a BIG difference so if you get one ride the bike and get comfortable before you hit the track.

I could sit here all day and type about different setups but you never know what the track is going to be like, But like stated get someone out there that is kind enough to help you and talk to you about your bike. and set you up the first couple of times.

If you are running with us next season come over to my trailer and I can help you out on setup and stuff. I have a black trailer and it will have the blue 400ex setting outside most of the time. Hope to see you next year!

choose a photo on in your album on photo bucket then, there should be a box to the right of the screen that says share this photo then click on code across from the word that says img, then click on the code across the words that say img and it should say copied then go to the reply box on this thread and right click it and press paste just like thishttp://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn161/colerox_2008/yz85.jpg

I have no clue, I will have to talk to one of my buddies about that he is going to the AMA Board meeting Tonight I will have to talk to him.

I guess they want to make the production C classes bigger or something so they will be more interesting.

If you run next year you will probably run with me in production C class. I will also run in Unlimited C next year too.

Who is your friend that races in the series what class does he run in?

400eXz
09-13-2011, 08:29 PM
chad stevens he used to race in production a and pro am in like 2000 to 05 but he got hurt real bad, and now he is racing his buddies 04 450r in 25 plus and 30 plus, he used to race a banshee and a kfx 400 before he got hurt.

Oh yeah he is the one that broke his leg at Paducah Raceway, that was a bad wreck, that bike was totaled.

Glad to see him racing again!!!

400eXz
09-13-2011, 08:45 PM
yep, thats him he's a family friend. how long have you been racing?

they have the wreck on video, and it looks like the back wheel jumped up and it just threw him off the quad, he said his buddys searched for a day and couldnt find the wheel that got thrown off of it.

This is my first year racing out there, but I have been to a lot of TT races in the past and I know a lot of people out there, One of my buddies told me about his wreck back in 2005.

so what all do you reccomend for tt racing

400exrip
09-14-2011, 01:31 PM
You need the tires I recomend Hoosier racing tire soft compound. make sure you get 10inch rims for the back I recomend Douglas red label or ITP pro series GP double rolled lips which is what I run.

You definatly need a swaybar Rath Racing makes the best swaybar.

to lower the front of the bike the right way I use Blaster shocks, but when you get them you have to grind to shock eye down for them to fit the Honda. I have Elka's on mine but if you don't want to spend a lot of money regular blaster shocks work just fine.

Motor work you will basicaly need a good port polish job, good valves, strong cam, high compression piston and maybe a bore kit. with this combo on race gas you should run pretty good.

I f you do decide to get a bigger carb go with a kehin FCR, every other carb is crap.

Everything else is up to you. color, plastics, graphics, chasis components, etc.

400eXz
09-14-2011, 01:40 PM
like how would you want your suspension set up, and do you know of a cheap but good shock other than a blaster front shock that is aftermarket that is good for tt.

400exrip
09-14-2011, 03:07 PM
You never know how to set up suspension until you get to the track.

Afco shocks youst to be good TT shocks that were cheap but they quit making them. you might be able to find some on ebay. PEP are what most of everybody runs out there but they are very, very high dollar top of the line shocks.

The afco shocks are blue with yellow springs just so you know what you are looking for if you find some.

400eXz
09-14-2011, 09:26 PM
i found some on rocky mountain atv, for 1349 bucks omg, thats a lot lol. then i found some on ebay for cheaper lol, also jw are works black widow shocks good for tt

400eXz
09-14-2011, 09:32 PM
also can you tell me a website to look at swing arms.

400exrip
09-15-2011, 05:16 AM
Yes Works shocks are very good for TT racing the black widows are real nice.

It's a lot of different places to look for swingarms. but I can't tell you a lot of companies names on this site due to advertising issues.

The cheapest one I know of is called a Ace Fabrication Swingarm. They got some pretty sick looking swingarms.

If I remember right you should be able to go to Ebay and type in 400ex swingarm and they should have a Ace Fabrication up there for sale.

400eXz
09-15-2011, 08:12 PM
