ok i have a 2000ex with a hmf exhaust on it. my question is how do i keep the clutch cable from getting next to the exhaust head pipe and melting the rubber. maybe i routed the cable wrong when i rebuilded the bike. has anyone else had this problem with a hmf pipe that could help or maybe pics of how your clutch cable is on your bike.

thanks, jason

if your cable is already done for, order a 92 250x clutch cable and route it down the frame. if you can still use the stock cable, try just using stiff wire to hold it away from the pipes.

ok thanks im look into a 250x cable. Is this cable longer? the cable i have now still is working but some of the rubber around the steal cable melted.

Yes. It is longer, allowing you to route it down the right side of the frame instead of b/t the headers like stock. Comes nowhere near the headers.

You could also try useing Steel Braided Clutch cable.

something like this (Ebay Item Number) 140582447428

I wrapped my header in heat wrap, just like a 6" area to prevent that

I also put that siver heat tape on my clutch cable (just the part that rubbed the exhaust.

I know they say the heat wrap for the header reduces HP but honestly it must not be enough to do anything because i didnt really notice anything different

I was thinking the problem was that my exhaust was hmf system but now i see everyone had this problem. i never had the problem with stock exhaust.
