View Full Version : Changing Rings on my Piston

Anyone know if it is hard to change the rings on the Piston. My Quad is burning a bit of oil and i want to change the rings and maybe do a valve job will i'm at it.

It's not a terribly difficult job. We just did it this weekend. Grab yourself a service manual and a good torque wrench and then just take your time and be careful. I would also recommend having someone there to help you as you go along - a spare set of hands really helps out.

Yeah, what he said. Plus the first time I tore into mine I drew diagrams of things that looked important such as where each bolt went (some of the bolts are longer or shorter than others). This helped during the reassembly process.

You should probably dust/hone the cylinder when putting in new rings. They may not seat properly on a previously used and glazed cylinder bore.
