First a transmission a year now about every 4 months. Anyone using billet gears?

Are you fragging gears every time? Or is it something different each time.

something different everytime. but starts with a false neutral between 2-3 everytime.

I think them Billet gears run about $2000

You can try them if you got the $$$.
I sure wouldn't pay that much for em.

I never heard of such thing , who makes them ?

did you tried a re-worked transmission like MXP does ?

mine is holding up good so far , only have 2 weekends left before tearing the motor down so we will see.

Maybe try back cut gears or cryo treated gears...

the false shift between 2-3 is caused by the dogs rounding off. If your breaking the dogs off, that is common too, the 06+ bikes only have 3 dogs per gear whereas the 04-05 have 4. Ive heard some success with doing the cryo to the gears, cutting them will not make them stronger, it only helps with the engagement of the shifts. Doing an ISF and Cyro on the gears will def make them stronger and improve durability and it would be way less then the billet set

Sounds like Operator error to me!!
Maybe learn how to shift.
Adjusts the shifter,
Tight up the shifter.
Change foot placement.

Baldwin does the billet tranny. Upperman runs it in his bike. From what I hear its worth the money. I thought I heard $1500.

haha, its not operator error, the 06+ bikes have weak tranny's, if you ride MX hard they will break eventually. I know Jansenn sells them for 1900-2000 i think.

There's a rather odd but legit reason for tranny failures on the 06-newer 450R's. This comes from one of the top engine/suspension builders in the country. I was told that it's not necessarily weakness in the transmission or rider error, but rather a weak shifter return spring (the spring that is located on the shift shaft). It is probably more of a problem with more aggressive riders riding on rougher terrain. The weak spring lets the shifter bounce in rough situations, causing the tranny to try to shift by itself, usually under acceleration. This causes the gear dogs to lash together, causing extreme wear, and eventual transmission failure.

my shift shaft was bent and it wouldn't let the shifter return to the middle possition. it was such a minute bend in it we had to take it out and put a metal ruler next to it to see.
