If you take the headpipe off you will see some pretty big welds inside teh headpipe where it mounts to the head. Mine were prety big on my old 400. I did a few other things at the same time so im not sure what i gained from it but every little bit helps.

yea the welds are inside the headpipe about a half inch in. the go all the way around. I just used a dremel tool and smoothed em out. Mine prolly stuck out like 1/8 or 3/16 of an inch all the way around. its really easy and takes like 20 minutes to do. the hardest part is gettin the header off.

One of the welds on my headpipe was like an 1/8 inch in diameter smaller on one side than it was on the other. I had my grandpa's machine shop port my pipe out for me and I noticed that the engine revved up faster.

does anyone have any pics? I would like to do this but with my non-mechanicalness I don't want to mangle anything.

Is there any seals or anything that would need to be replaced if you took your headpipes off?

No seals to contend with. Might want to put anit-seize on the header bolts when you install them again.

Some quads have them some don't. Mine didn't but my friends did.
They are metal "O-Rings" I got some from Service Honda and put them on mine.

I have a 400ex with a k&n and a miled jet. I agree with the idea that the air flow should be smooth but I also agree that maby we should leave the designing to the experts.

thanks a bunce.....
