I bought this trailer a few weeks ago (8' x 18' wells cargo) and it has the rear ramp door as well as the left side escape door. unfortunately it has no walk through side door. thought it would take me longer to feel the need to have one but, i really want one now.. problem is i'm having trouble finding a "add a door kit" or anything even close. I was wanting to avoid taking it to a trailer place to be installed and do it myself. Does anyone know where to find a place online that sells doors for enclosed trailers or a kit or something to get an idea of what its going to take and the cost? thanks!

also the out side latches and bars are rusty... does any body know a good way to remove the rust and keep it from coming back with out looking ghetto or replacing everything? thanks again..

here's a picture while we're here...

you might be able to find a door and door frame, as an entire assembly at a RV Salvage yard. I know of a place like this in my area, and I was recently there looking for a replacement door for a buddies cab-over camper.
They have hundreds of door assemblies in every size and style imagineable.
It would be a very easy installation, and you could do all the work yourself.

You might also think about keeping a close watch on craigslist in your area, and trying to find an older camper that you could pick up for around $500. Then you could part it out yourself, use the windows, cabinets, stove, fridge, etc.
with a little imagination, and some creative thinking, you could modify your trailer into a quasi-toyhauler, that would convert into a comfortable camper/sleeper.
it's always nice to have a fridge, toilet/porta-pottie, A/C, bed, heater, etc.

I have done a similar thing with my 7 x 14 enclosed trailer, and it is a "stacker" tat hauls all the quads (4) and landsailers (3), firewood, gear, tools, etc., ....then when all the toy's come out, it quickly converts into a "RV Guest House".

It has a outside awning, porta-pottie, shelfs, table and benches, TWO queen sized beds, and I have yet to install the side windows and roof A/C.

it will sleep, eat, sit, 4 adults comfortably, and another table/chairs outside, and under the awning, along with a portable BBQ, and I'm all set !

everything you see in this pic, fits into the red trailer.
As well as Tables, chairs, firewood, icechests, BBQ, and all our riding gear.

Here's an inside shot, in "stacker" configuration.
The forward shelf comes down below the rear shelf, and they become queen sized bunk beds, leaving room in the front of the trailer for 3 shelfs to fold down from the fron wall, and a 4 person picnic bench inside.

Here's a shot of it packed like sardines, LOL!

As far as the rust goes on your latch bars, good ole Navel Jelly, a stiff wire brush, and a can of Krylon,
Should fix you right up !

I have found several ways of removing rust that works very well.
The first one is called Phosphoric acid. You can get it at most hardware stores.
You just spray it on and let it dry, it will turn rust black and essentially kills the rust. Then you can pain right over the blackened rust with a good rust stopping paint like rust-oliem.
The bad thing about the acid is you cant get it on anything you don’t want to redo. It will eat the paint if you get it on a painted area.

The other way is with something called iron – out. http://www.superironout.com/ simply mix it with some water and soak the part in it for a few days. It will kill the rust as well. And it safe on painted parts.

I haven't thought about finding a salvage RV yard for spare parts. I have an older trailer that I am looking to rehab for a friend. I hadn't considered a walk-thru door but I like the additional feature. As for the rust, I was thinking of just grinding the big stuff down with a wire wheel. Maybe I will check out the super iron as well. As for myself, I have been surfing websites like www.trailersplus.com (http://www.trailersplus.com) so I can get a project of my own started. As for my toys, I just have a 4-wheeler and a dirtbike, but I also like to cart around my mountain bike and gear. So what I am hoping to build is an all purpose trailer that I can take along when we go camping and such.

thanks for the input guys! still searching for a door, guess i'm going to have to start calling these local trailer places and see if i can find some info out. some of these places seem shanty to me, from their run down old gas station lot ( i can look past that in most cases ) and some of the add on work they've done don't look very good.. been looking for a rv to get parts from but all i find is wrecked way to hard or not wrecked hard enough.. lol

going to start working on insulating the walls and roof and figure out what i want to do for wall panels and what i'm going to do on the floor, not sure if i wanna lay down more wood and then put something down on it. thinkin about checkered floor.. not sure yet though..
