Can I powdercoat my a-arms? Because on the end theres that joint and theres rubber sealent on it, and it dont look like it wants to come off!? I looked in my manual, and it showed everything else, but that comming off. On the bottom ones, I can take a bolt off and take them off, but not the top. I dont want to spray paint them!!!!!!!!!! Can I take em off, I need suggestions!!!

On stock 250r a-arms you can not take it off. At least that is what I read. I heard you can powder coat them but the powder has a possibility to chip off like glass. I had a post like this in the body section i think. I am chroming my a-arms for that reason. You can do a search and you will get some answers if u want. I tihnk i labeled it powdercoating questiop.

paint will hold up if applied well.........i personally have never painted any a arms but have seen alot of other posts where they said to put a lot of clear on them,,,,,,,,,,,,,and it will hold up a bit longer,,,,,but obviously powder is the coating of choice;)

and chauncy is correct if you do powder and take the powder only till it flows out and not to full cure so you dont hurt the joint the powder is fragile due to the undercure and can chip like glass

if i could do it and know it would hold up i would have done it already to my 88 310R,,,,,but i will have to just wait for aftermarket arms so i can do those:ermm:

If you are talking about the rubber boot you can take it off. I have done it on 2 R's. Remove the boot clean all the grease off get some high temp silicone and seal between the ball and carrier(this keeps the grease you can't get to from running out during pcing) When you get it back remove the silicone install a new boot carefuly drill a hole for a grease zerk and grease.

I had the frame on my 300ex sandblasted , 2 coats of primer , 3 coats of automotive paint, and 2 clear coat and it held up great.

can u powder coat the a arms on a 400ex?

if you realy want to powdercoat stock A-arms your option is to rework the arms & add sleeves to accept
aftermarket ball jonts like the ones in the pic
then you can also add polyuretane bushings while you at it ;)

the ones in the pic are really special ..
I even had custom bushings made for them ...also added grease zerks for cutting down on maintenance & longer life..

I think as long as you get grease back in your ok. The heat will only dry out the grease and cannot damage steel. I will be doing my this week so I guess I will find out.

i did a set of banshee arms once....and the nylon keeper inside melted out,,,,,,,,,,so i think i will stick with aftermarket ones only.....i dont want to be liable for someones quad shooting them over the bars:eek2:
