dirtwheels had it in there but if you read it closely it is their bet on a 2013 efi trx 450r they say it is made and gone through the reliability testing already honda just can't justify the retooling of the factory . they don't think they will sell enough of them.

It's a photoshop of what they think it would look like, based on rumors.

i would really like it if they had the big aluminum bar there, it'd be sweet..but does that mean possibly a full aluminum frame too? i think its just a bunch of dirtwheels BS..

ya that frame would lokk sick like that, it would be a lot lighter using alluminum than steel, but i still want it to have reverse but they'll never have it probably

Can someone post a pic? I'd just like to see what they came up with. I remember the trx250 they came up with a couple years back and that looked pretty cool.

it was all based on rumors and when it comes to this stuff dirtwheels gets very annoying

Not even a good photo shop, look at the area above the foot pegs, frame doesn't line up. I think the article even said it was a photoshop.

Come on Honda! I want to stay a Red Rider, but I'm losing faith!

I heard now 1 1/2 yrs ago that Honda had a new 450R. Honda will come out with a new 450r. So I think that Dirt Wheels is pretty close on a new 450R. I was at the International this spring. Honda was then the 450R will be back but a possible new one for 2013. You Can say the same for KTM being back but cheaper.

In the pic that looks like a CRF450 motor in it, not even a TRX450 motor. the frame also is made up like a crf frame all big and fat.

Also the gas tank looks smaller I guess that so you can get less gas mileage when it 3.35 a gallon

Def a photoshop from a CRF. I honestly don't see a new TRX450R coming out. We are lucky that there is one on the showroom floor at all. I don't see what Honda would be gaining by nvesting the money into a new 450R? The competition has already dropped by some other brands, there really isn't the Factory support for racing like there was a few years ago, either. Since most pros are buying their own machines now, a large amount are using the current 450R. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a new one and I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

It has been a long time since any company has put out a new bike I remember when companies would come out with 2 or 3 new bikes a year.

Newest thing I can remember that came out is the Honda 700xx and that was back in like 2008. and it was not that big of a seller either.

That is 100% not what the new 450R looks like.

The speculation is on the right track, but photoshop is the best they can do at this point without letting the cat out of the bag....

dirt wheels did about the same photoshop job when they made all of those fancy, fictional hybrid quads that they said would fit into the market. in that like up was a 500cc twin cylinder 4 stroke banshee, and.... (i think they're obsessed with the honda's running aluminum frames) a trx250f/r, a [partially] aluminim frame with the 250 4 stroke bike motor in it... i think they just need to stop cause its not going to happen LOL.

IMO that pic does look like a cannondale, but i truthfully think its going to look like a standard trx, with some fancy "fuel injected" stickers slapped on it.

And this proves what exactly?

The company I work for holds 30+ engineering patents for use in products that are not currently on the market.

It's not going to happen until they set an exact release date.

At least they have it designed on paper and they are planning to do something with it soon.

You have to remember that it's not just a unknown company throwing out patent designs, it's a company with millions of dollars that already has a market for this type of thing.

Seriously? I would be willing to bet that they have many, many designs such as this on paper that have never nor will ever see the light of day. That goes for both motorcycles and ATVs.

why would honda spend the time and money on a new design when everyone keeps switching back to honda? I know alot of guys who have switched over this year to Honda, so why would they bother if everyone is riding Hondas?

steel vs aluminum

steel - if it breaks you stand a good chance of repairing it. I also liek the flex. Anyone who rode a laeger in the past knows what i am describing.

Alum - with the heat treating, once it cracks its done.

EFI is the way to go. But the honda dirt bike is just so so on the EFI. I have had two and never got rid of the flame out issue. I bought Kaw 450 and the EFI is killer - no cough stall hiccup or anything and it has never been remapped. i bought the honda efi tool and mapped it myself, and had a couple other people install their mapps and i never got it to run super clean down low.

Because the 450R is a out dated design and they need to come out with a better chassis. Just look at all the other 450R's all of them are more advanced than the honda, they all have better suspension, a lighter chassis and are more rider friendly.

lagear also had a aluminum chassis for the 400ex. I had one and that was one bad *** bike..

I do beleive its true. Its just about the economy right now , it needs to get back to what it was 5 + years ago and companies will release new models.

About the aluminum frame , You never see a KFX450r frame cracking , and dirtbike chassis are also tough. It does require a different approach when tuning suspension because of the flex.

I don't think the 450r chassis is outdated at all. They've proven that the chassis works 3x over between the 250r, 400ex and 450r. Every aftermarket company has based their frames off of Honda's frame design. I wouldn't mind if they used the same chassis over and over again.

It'd be nice if they came a little wider stock. At least 48 inches wide for good measure. Their suspension isn't bad though, I don't mind paying less for the quad and getting the shocks re-valved. No matter what stock suspension I buy I would have it tuned for my weight and riding.

If they keep the frame, widen it up a bit and get the CG perfected like the 250r that would be great.

The motor on the other hand is a major shortcoming. A smooth, powerful motor like they've got in the CRF is what they need.

Kawie450r

They need to atleast make the frame stronger. It cracks all over the place all the time.

Joe Byrd is full of it....LOL

Funny, I have said the exact same thing over the past few years, expressing that the economy is factor #1 in the delay of new sport quads, and I am criticized.

Joe is right, they have quads ready to release, and when it makes fiscal sense to do so, they will.

Just a couple years later than I'd have liked.
