tryed to lap some new intake valves in my400 and put it back together and it would not idle took carb off and valves leaking in intake wonder if anyone had this happen:confused:

do you feel comfortable in what you did to seat them? if so you may want to look for cracks

well it took the valves out and laped the exaust valves and the intake valves had a ring in the middle of the surface . so i replaced them with new oe valves and lapped them in the seats looked good so i did not get them ground.

did you use a fine compound?
clean everthing well before putting together?
I know these may sound like dumb common sense questions, but it is not hard for anyone to make a simple mistake that is frustrating as hell.

Just think about what you did....you may need to relap the valves, then you will be positive they are seated correctly

You gotta get the seats cut (3 angle valve job) before you try to lap in new valves. You should go ahead and get all 4 seats cut and put 4 new valves in while you have it apart.

Don't forget to put fresh valve seals in as well!
