its time for a rebuild on the wheeler was thinking about
10:1 wiseco piston (note sure on the bore)
stage 2 hot cam
port & polish
and was thinking about replacing the cam chain and the tensioner
i keep seeing people talk about the crf450 cam chain. whats the big deal with it??
what you guys think

CRF 450 TIMING CHAIN IS THE SAME AS THE 400EX CHAIN BUT HEAVY DUTY AND WILL NOT STREATCH AS EASY.
THE STOCK 400 CHAINS WILL STREATCH 90% OF THE TIME, THE FIRST TIME YOU TAKE THE TOP END APART.
GO 416 IF YOUR GONNA BORE, BUT WHY GO 10:1? JUST WONDERING. BUT YOU WONT SEE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE WITH A 10:1.. I MEAN YOU WILL BUT FOR THE SAME PRICE YOU COULD GET
(AND I AM ASSUMING YOU MEANT A 10.8:1 BTW
BUT!!! I WOULD GO WITH A 11:1)
11:1 STAGE 2 HOTCAM 416 BORE PORT AND POLISH SPARKS TIMING KEY
AND IT WILL FEEL LIKE A WHOLE NEW QUAD.
YOU FOR SURE HAVE TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONER THOUGH.
YOU COULD GET A 12:1 BUT I HAVENT HEARD MUCH ABOUT THEM SO I DONT KNOW IF THEY ARE GOOD OR BAD

you cant run a sparks key with a 11:1 unless use run 100+ octane gas and even then its not recomended.

You'd be fine with just an 11:1 piston and cam shaft. I would reccomend changing the timing chain though, it's only 50 bucks.
P&P for better flow, couple holes in the air box, and throw the right jet in and you'll have pretty solid engine without sacrificing power/reliability.
My 426 has been on the same piston for 5-6 years now! You can't kill these bikes!
