My son has a xtreme typhoon 125. I want to know what motor I could swap out for the stock motor that would be a easy swap. The stock motor is just junk. Trans is hard to shift, throttle response poor.

Check with Tbolt USA,firepowerminis, or Ahp minis. Just depends what your looking for. Our flat track typhoon has a piranha motor built to the hilt. It's a beast to kick start. Our motor typhoon had a stock 90cc lower end with a 114 kit with race head and manual billet clutch .
These places should give you a good start. Lifan and piranha motors are a easy swap. There is
A company called yx that makes the piranha and several others. I do know if you go with a 125
In a piranha they say to buy the 140cc motor and swap out the piston and cylinder. 140 has a lot better head for better performance. Hope this helps.

I used the Lifan 140 in three of our bikes and they worked great, Ride1Rob used a Fire Power 150 with great results. Check out the pit bike web sites such as tbolt, and others

Here's the motor that Laeger n ky was talking about. Only mini quad on the gate with a LTR450, (2) Raptor 250's. (1) Blaster. and (2) 300ex's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyysPDEMuE4

Was thinking more of a auto trans motor. If I can not get my younger son's DS 50 running right, I want him to ride this quad. Does not need to be crazy fast just reliable. A 90 would be fine.

Well, the stock motor will shift easier over time. Really tight brand new. The throttle response is poor because of the carb that is way too small. Put a vm24 or vm26 Mikuni on it and that problem is solved. You never specified how old your son was or his skill level. Only that the motor sucked because it was hard to shift and throttle response is horrible. If you want better feedback give better info on what you're looking for and for what type of rider/riding you do.

Looking for gas and go. Not poor shift and throttle response. Have had the quad for 3 years and ths shifting has not got any better, did the shifter adjustment did not really help. My sons are 10 and 13 and we do trail riding. This quad has some good features just poor quality and craftmanship.

Ride1Rob thanks for info about the carb. Will it use the same manifold intake and filter the quad already has? Where would I get the best deal on the carb? Ebay?

If your boys are 10 and 13 you need a REAL engine. You shouldn't go less than 150 and it won't be too much power for them. Just more enjoyment for them to ride. The carbs boot right up to the boot you already have. May have to tweak the jetting a bit. I did most of my shopping for the Typhoon from Firepower or Ebay. Firepower (Terry) knows these engines like no one else does and he will tell you what combination of engines, trannies, pistons, etc... work best with what type of motor. For example, in the motor we raced had a Daytona crank, Pirahna close ratio tranny, Wiseco piston, and a Lifan head on it.

Found out today my son broke his upper arm playing football over the weekend. I guess that puts the build on hold....
