I was wondering what size tire is preferred for MX racing? 18,19,20,21,or 22 and why?
Also, which of the MX tires hook up the best?

Thanks

front - 19 or 20in (your preference)
rear - 18in

rim sizes are up to you

top 3 best tire combos IMO are..

18in rear tamers (grooved) + holeshot mx fronts 19/20in
18in holeshot mx's, + 19/20in holeshot mx fronts
18in razr 2's, 19in razer 2 fronts

Is the tracks you ride at ruff or smooth?

-If its ruff, get the 20" front and 18" rear holeshot MXR's, they are bigger tires and get good traction in looser stuff.

-If its very smooth and hard packed, get 19" front radials, and trimmed rear 18" (actually 17") Tamers these tires are very small, get the quad low, and hook up great in hard packed dirt!

He's probably referring to the 19" Razr MX fronts. I'm with you- I don't think they make a 19" Razr 2.

I've seen Razr MX's listed at Razr2's in some books.

I wanna give the Kenda Klaw MX's a shot.

No, holeshots' sizes are normally right on par
The only tires I have used that is a different size than advertised is the Tamers, which are actually 17" tall

I would look at the new kenda klaws in 18" rear and 20'' front those seem to be the tires that every one will be using here soon, I will be getting them as my next set.

Well since someone brought up actual tire size vs. listed size. I just bought 22 inch Kenda Knarly rears and they are holy shnit big! They measure a full 24 inches:huh There is only about an inch and a half between the tire and the stock heel guard. Does anyone know if the 22 inch holeshots and razrs are ACTUALLY 22"? Does anyone know of any other tires where the actual size is this much bigger that the listed size.

I was refering to Turf Tamers. Iv'e heard that the 18" rear actuallty measures 17", so does this mean that the 20" Turf Tamer rear actually measures 19"?

I have no idea, All I can say is that my "18" turf tamers" measured an exact 17" tall.
I have never bought "20"" tall tamers before.
Check around and see if your interested in getting some! :)

Today I ordered the 20x6x10 Kenda Klaws for the front, and the 18x10.5x8 for the rear. I also ordered the Hiper carbon wheels, 10x5 for the front and the 8x8 for the rear. Hope this is a good setup.
Thanks for all the help.
