Stuck in 4 wd

My buddy has a 2007 king quad 450 the other day we were riding and he got stuck in serious mud after being pulled out it will not go back into 2wd just stuck in 4wd does anyone have any ideas of what could cause this thanks ahead for any ideas you could pass my way.

I dont know what the 07 kings have but my dads 95 is all linkage for all the different gear selections. I would check to make sure that nothing is jammed in the linkage like branch or clumps of mud. Make sure that nothing is bent. Also try rocking the quad alot and see if it will fall in while trying to push the levers.
