Getting ready to install HID's using this as a guide: http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=449531&highlight=HIDs

We run with our lights on day and night since our trails are two way. Is there any problems with starting the quad with the headlights already on? Any other issues that I might have? Any certain relay to use? It shows a 20a fuse, I thought that was big was thinking 15a. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

I have no problems with starting mine up with them on. I use a 30 amp relay, got it off the shelf at the parts house. I ran a 10 or 12 gauge wire (cant recall which gauge) to the battery for power to the relay,. I have mine wired with both headlights on with low beams, but will prob change it to one on with low beam, and both in high beam because if you hit the switch to high beams on accident I have no lights. However, I do like the fact that I can currently have the taillight on with no headlights, but will lose that once I rewire them with one on low, both on high.

HID's are plug and play....you shouldnt be doing any wiring or relays or fuses....
go to ebay..find the kit for 36.99 buy now, free shipping....buy it...splice wires into factory plug and into the headlights and your good.

i ran it like that on my 400ex and now swapped them to my 450r kicker. no issues at all and i run them on at night so even if i stall out, i kick it over and fire itup and when the capacitor gets juice, it fires both on full force.

its that easy to 30ft clear as day at night...

The HIDs pull more amps at startup than standard bulbs, however they pull less amps once warmed up than the standard bulbs. Have seen and read on the net several examples of the add on kits burning up the factory wiring in cars due to the start-up surge. Of course Im not sure that you would have to worry about it on your non battery quad. Thats another animal. The factory installed HIDs in my Sierra Denali has relays in it... had one go bad under warranty.

The HIDs are night and day difference from stock lights literally!

If you are running a stock stator,... make sure you get the 35watt kit,...
and NOT the 55watt kit.

35 watt hid's are more then enough. You'll love them.

On every H.I.D kit I've wired, I've always used a relay. Is it a necessity? Probably not, but it is always better to play it safe.

At least that way, I could run a larger gauge wire directly from the battery, and have the peace of mind that I'm not gonna have issues with the factory wiring.

Both kits survived the 10 hr Heartland Challenge.

Thanks for the info. I know the 400ex uses a h6m bulb but does anybody know what the 08 250ex takes? I have been searching for about 2 months now and haven't been able to find out.

i dont know what kit i have (35 or 55) but yes hid's do take more to fire up but once they are warm, they draw less than normal lights, so for the brief time they take to fire up, i can deal with.

i havent had any issues....

this is the kit i have...

Well I finally broke loose with the cash, and ordered up a "Ebay special".

Here's the kit that I've got coming....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XENON-35W-HID-CONVERSION-KIT-H6M-5000K-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZalgoQ3dLVIQ26ituQ3dUC IQ26otnQ3d5Q26poQ3dLVIQ26psQ3d63Q26clkidQ3d2390116 728361371805QQ_trksidZp5197Q2em7QQitemZ40023564397 5

Looking forward to getting it all hooked up, and finishing off my headlight strobe mod too.
(Collision Avoidance Strobes)

Since the HID's are a single beam only,... I think I'll use the low beam side of the stock switch for the strobes, and the high beam side for the HID's.
That will make it easy and convienent to switch from daytime strobes, to nighttime HID's. Yea !!!

For any of the new members who may not have seen this mod before, here's a link to that old thread...

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=461237

Haven't decided if I'm going to do the relay thing yet, but it does seem like a good idea.

I love the strobe idea. Would like to see a video of it when you are finished. Around here allot of on road motorcycles have there headlights flash (high/low if single bulb and left/right if double bulbs) during the day and does make a huge difference. Not sure how they do it or if would work on HID's but it might be worth looking into.

Anyone know of a headlight bulb that has 4 tabs to hold it into the housing instead of 3 tabs? That's what my 08 250ex has and I cant find an HID that will work.
