I found these on craigslist :http://louisville.craigslist.org/rvs/2557254963.html
The guy says there plush , that hes 185lbs and the quad squats when he sits on it . There supposed to be set up for xc , but he doesnt know what weight . He told me when he bought the quad they were on there but he doesnt need them since he runs axis . What do you all think?

i think for 150 bucks its not a real bad deal. you could get them rebuilt and valved to your weight easy enough and have some nice shocks if you decide you dont like how they are set up now.

at least they are ressie shocks, regular works arent the best by any means but they still absorb bumps. lol

i say if you want a set of shocks and they look decent get them. it is hard to tell from the picture how the condition really is.

What's the prices on getting these rebuilt ? What kind of improvement are these vs stock 400s, or even 450r and yfz450 shocks .

The rear shock 400ex is already a good shock...but thats a great price for all three...I've had Works for about 10 yrs. A great low budget shock when set up right. I think the fronts for a rebuild will run 125 give or take alittle depends who does them the rear should run about 75.00..try them an see what you think, but I'm betting they need some fresh oil, makes a big difference.

How can you tell if there going to be stiff or plush without them on the quad ? or is there a way ? he wont come down on the price at all , If i got these and ended up not liking them do you guys think i could get my money back out of them on ebay or something ?

theres not really a test to check them without having some tools to do it. these tools i am not sure of.

you could def get your money back out of them if you dont like them. imo.

usually a full set rebuild would be 2-3 hundred, revalves are some more based on my rebuilds on my sled shocks.

if set up right, they will be as good as a 450 shock and most likely alot better based on a stock style 450 shock. after a revalve and such the 450 shocks are very good also and would be on par with a set up set of works or any other company.

if you spent 150 on them, and 400 on a rebuild and revalve you would still be ahead imo. you cant get 3 shocks set up for your machine for 550 bucks. elkas, axis, and such are quite a bit more than that, even used alot of times. 450 shocks would be about the same cost though imo.

I have a Works 250R rear shock on my 400EX. The top bushing is a touch narrower on the 400, but that can be easy ground down. The bottom where it attaches to the link is wider on the 250R and therefore doesn't really fit right on the 400 set-up along with the bushings being a different diameter if I recall. I think the 250R set-up is slightly longer making it a little tougher to squish in there.

Just my .02,

Well i talked the guy into trading a pair of Oakleys and $75 for the set of shocks , I think im going to go ahead and do it . I've never had a set of works , Ive always ran elkas on everything i've had . I dont expect them to be as nice as my LT Elka set up on my 400 . Correct me if im wrong but , These things have to be better than stock for XC right ?

i would say that they should def be better than the stock stuff, the fronts for sure.
