You can't be scared of it, most people that switch from quads to dirtbikes, are scared of the dirtbike and then crash it, You are more likely to crash something when you are scared of it.
You got to be more loose on a dirtbike than on a quad, you can't be all tensed up and stiff, you got to move around on that thing, once you get a feel for it you should be good.

Give it time. Get the basics down first. The most common beginner error is to be too far back on the bike. Positioning is one of the biggest keys to learn how to ride a bike, especially in corners/jumps. Some people progress faster than others, but it wasn't til about year 3 or so that I actually picked up the pace on the track pretty good and was able to be competitive.

I made the switch from riding A class on a full race 450R to a CRF450. I hated it at first and almost gave up on the bike, i couldnt jump or corner. Now i love it. I dunno what kinda bike you bought but the best thing to do it just ride it. Like KXrida said, Body positioning is the best thing about a bike. If you ever came up short on a jump with a quad then i aint gotta tell you how that feels. Wait till you come up short on that bike, thats when you will fall in love. My stock CRF rides like a cadillac compared to my 450R and it had long travel elkas on the front with a long travel PEP on the rear.

yea i got a cr 125, i actually just rejetted it cuz i lost a race to a kx 85, now its a totally different bike. i can ride it fine, obviously not as good as a quad but i am starting to get quick int the woods. thinking about mx soon idk yet im gunna ride at mx 101 in epping nh to see how it feels. and i am being totally honest when i say 2 strokes are way harder to ride than 4 strokes. i never believed it until i got one. my cousin has a crf250 and his bike is like riding a cloud. im wayyy faster on his than mine but im getting better on the 2 stroke. cant wait to get good i love it

For me, I was pretty fast in straights and over jumps with the bike because it felt a lot like quads to me. But then when I got to corners, I was all over the place and super slow until I figured out how to ride the ruts well

i bought myself my first real bike a cr125 and man o man i love it. pick different line then a quad..sorta flow with the trail and the berms etc. stay loose and dont be scared..people say 125's suck on trails but man i just wind it up and ride..im gonna need a new rear tire actually haha. i switched bikes with my friends dad while trail riding and got to ride his ktm 505 race bike  that mother f****r was FAST and smooth comparedd to my cr haha..re jetting my CR now but will probably get a cr250r sooner or later. bikes can be fun just dont be scared of them, learn the basics and the bike..ride smart and remember you can put your feet down haha..tipover..

Shoulders up, head over the bars, weight the outside peg, and hammer on the gas.

those videos make me want a bike even more. im getting really bored with the 400ex. one thing is though, you cannot under estimate these machines. i got on a klx140 and was ripping around like damn this isnt bad. then got on a yz250 and was going through gears slowly and was like damn.. this things slow. then whacked on it and it came right up and out from underneath me, just gone haha. if you know how to ride them there great, if you dont just be cautious, they are by no means quads. once i got a little better on the yz im like woah, power.

Two words..... thumb throttle. And just ride it. I race a class at nationals on a quad and when I first got on the bike it was hilarious. Just gotta get seat time.
