Whats up guys.. i got a great deal on a Grayden Proline slip on exhaust for a 450R... i figured hey i have a set of torches and a welder so i can make it work on my 400EX :D.

I searched the forums and saw that it has been done before but i never found a wirte up on it.. so heres my little write up....

It didnt take a lot of work to make it fit.. matter of fact the only REAL modification i had to make was adding a bracket to the sub frame of my 400...the 450R apparantly has 2 support brackets holding the pipe up back there...

To make the Graydon slip on fit around my stock head pipe i had to expand the inner diameter of the slip on using a pipe expander i had from snap on... you could get creative and use an impact socket slightly larger than the I.D. along with a vice and lump hammer and make it work - although i dont recommend it but im sure it will work... i was able to slip the Graydon pipe on about an inch and a half with a thin bead of hondabond (as i do with all my exhaust joints just for security of no leaks) while using the factory 400ex support bracket on the sub frame...in the pics i still havent welded the second bracket as you can see..

Looking at the pic from the back you see where the baffle aims - towards the left.. that shows you how much i turned the pipe to keep it straight in line out the back without cutting anything up. I simply drilled out the rivits of the baffle aimed it where i wanted and re-rivited it. (not shown in pics) ill add new pics later..

Now the two brackets on the Graydon i had to bend about 45 degrees upward to to line up with the 400EX factory mount and my added mount.. next came a couple long bolts and some makeshift spacers made from black gas pipe :D..
any questions feel free to ask!! IDK HOW TO ADD MORE THAN ONE PIC! (DONT MIND MY RUSTY AXLE THE QUAD IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION :) )

The rust I think is a common thing with these axles or something cuz mine is the same way and it hardly has any hard ride time on it.

Id like to see more detailed pictures :P

Of like What parts did you make/use, What/where did you drill out & re rivit, Pictures of it going form slip on pipe to stock head pipe, stuff like that.

How long were the Plack spacers you made?
how long of a bolt did you need?

Sorry to ask alot of questions, Just think it would be intresting to see more on this.

Lonestar must use poor quality chrome or something because it shouldnt have started to rust so badly so soon

Does anyone know if LSR would cover this under there warranty or not? But I'm thinking that only covers for breaking it not cosmetic.

yeah i doubt they will cover rust.. lol otherwise everybody will be calling them haha... i wound up wire brushing the ***** out of my LSR and gave it a few coats of rust-oleum clear.. well see how long it lasts

If you can find a 450r exhaust that has a separate mid pipe all you have to do is cut the pipe to get the right length, and weld a tab on it for the lower mount. The one I did was the Supertrapp XD Race pipe.
