I searched the forums and didnt get a deffinate answer. Im upgrade to a larger oil cooler on my 400. I know the one that come on it is a stack tube design that uses the thin flat tubes. Is it ok to use the cooler with the large round tubes they are a ton cheaper?

is your bike a 440? If not there's no reason to upgrade the cooler. Stock is plenty fine.

every 400ex out there could benefit from added cooling.

tube style would be fine. Four Stroke Tech actually includes a tube style cooler in their kit.

Its your money man. just speaking from experience. I have built many 400 motors where the stock cooling system has done just fine. I guess it couldn't hurt, just not where i would spend my money.

From what I understand, the stack type is more efficient, so even if you go to a larger tube type, you may actually be losing cooling capacity. The best thing to do is keep the stock one in place and add a FST type cooler.

I'd just put a spal fan on the stock cooler and you'd be good to go.I have a stock engine and with the spal fan it took almost all of the tick away it used to have when it got hot.

Id get a used one off a street bike and use 2 hose clamps to clamp it to the chassis. You could move the stock one up in front to for better air flow like i did. I once tried to make a 250r rad into a huge oil cooler lol

No it was a hybrid in pic that's why had the raddy. And them were yfz450 stock shocks with +3 arms and set low as could go from the arms it made the shocks almost bottom out just sitting. Using a 250r raddy as a oil cooler idk how worked I didnt use it long in my head I thought the oil wasn't flowing good with it but thinking back it prob was flowing fine. Some one should try it like i did and see how it is.

Thanks for all your advice. After a little thinking on the subject I have decided to go with the larger stacked tube style cooler. And then will add a 7.5" spal fan. Im gonna keep the stock oil tank. Thanks again I still have a long ways to go but finally some parts are coming together.
