What would win in:Power, top speed, pulling, mud.

This saying they have same tires, both have 4wd and are all stock

Are you serious? Stock for stock? I like ford but dont believe it. Ive heard the older fuel injected 460 were only getting around 250 horse

Just my .02, but "What would win" is pointless. Only way to know would be get them both head to head and see. Equal drivers depending OFC.

the 89 ford must be a 3/4 ton so it will have more weight and and they have locking hubs as well. it depends a lot on gearing more than hp

I wasn't trying to start an argument, me and a person I know were discussing this and I wanted some input. I feel the dodge would win hands down. And I drive a ford

In 89 the 460's were freaking turds, had all the smog BS on them.. Maybe 270 hp, no compression.. Speed-hemi- power-hemi, pulling, that depends who keeps the wheels planted and not spin... Now if the ford has had any gear changing, diff tires, or engine work this all goes out the window..

I say you lock the hubs and put that 89 in 4 low and its all over...and I have a dodge 1500...I used to have an 89 f250 4x4 and it would pull the house off of a foundation with a 302

The Dodge would blow the trans before you even could really get it dirty. Really, Im quite serious-you abuse it in the least or not it blows usually.

The Ford although the 460 of that era was a turd has a few things going for it: its a big block and for its size and displacement makes pretty mean torque and horsepower. Most of its torque is WAY down low-the dodge hemi needs to scream to make the same kinda torque, then of course theres gearing- 10 bucks says the 460 has 4.10 gears or at least 3.55 gears, ram has usually 3.92 gears-ok but not great. Ford also has a MUCH stronger axle in it, a sterling 10.25 rear which is about the heaviest axle you could get at the time besides a D80 that dodge offered back then, The 4wd system on the ford also is much better, its a solid hub lockout-no electronic nothing really, put it in 4lo and it will do anything you want. Also the Ford still has a better frontend setup than the dodge unless the dodge has a solid axle (the new hemis dont iirc).

Anyways, Im sorry to say for you dodge lovers-the ford will win. Aint always about horsepower and torque-right gearing will make the truck do what ya want. My 94 F250 351 w/4.10s canpull a stinking house down with ease if I wanted too.

About the only thing the dodge would win would be in the numbers dept in power and top speed. Cause lets face it the F250 is an aerodynamic brick.

The 460s that year made 230 hp and 390 torque.

The Hemi made 345 hp and 375 torque.

Top speed= Dodge
Pulling and mud= Ford
Power = HP= Dodge/ torque = Ford

Gearing has alot to do with pulling.

A 460 would be in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. 1500 is a 1/2 ton.

Not really a good comparison between those 2 trucks. ;)

I had one of those 460s and they were the most gutless pos ever created. Couple that with the 3 spd automatic and you couldn't pass a gas station even with the two fuel tanks.

It was just a large motor that sucked gas and made almost no HP.

Musta been a tired engine, those old 460s got plenty of balls and the 3 speed is nice b/c it wont break and is excellent for towing-no overdrive.

It was tired straight off the assembly line

If you say so, Ive driven plenty of them and the pulling power they have with the right gears is amazing. You must understand the modern trucks spin tires and have tons and tons of power-but their ability to use it is severely lacking.

How on earth did we get along even 25 years ago when very few gas truck engines made less than 300 horsepower? Ill tell you how, they worked just fine, but they were slower to get to speed.

there is a couple of things you can do to those 460s to make them put out some decent power ive heard.. nothing major either.
