i used to ride at an awsome sand pit with Zrider400 and exboy400, it had steep long climbs with lips at the top, it was the best place around to ride at, but the dump bought it and shut it down  :grr :grr  :(

Hey, if any one here lives in southern WV, you will know which hills I am talking about. There is a place around here called bear claw, it is the steepest climb in southern WV, 1 4-wheeler that I know of has made it up it(( am there almost every weekend) but the bikes go up it like cake. There is a whole slew of hills to climb right around that area.

I have always known this Banshee hill as baldie because of the steep lat at the top and it is awesome. THe pic does not do it justice. On a loose sand day it is quite good.

Winchester Bay are good dunes depending on the previous days wind. It changes fast.

real riders only my ARSE! Whats so hard about shooting straight up a hill? lol. I dont have any pics of the big hill around here, Widowmaker. There arent any STRAIGHT hills around my place, they are all twisty and turny and steep as a mofo. Any hill that u can drag race up with a buddy, isnt a hill to me, but jmo:o

Well, extremeracer, you really dont know what Banshee Gulch is, or Attitude Hill, which I have never, EVER seen pics of on hte net. Attitude is 650-700 feet, STEEP, where you run through trees for 9-10 turns, turn 90 degrees left, and then have to go about 350 feet straight up the face of a "Finger" at Winchester Bay. Think you can just turn around and go down? You can, but there is a forest and a lake waiting for you at the bottom.

extremeracer this hill he is showing in no straight shot. I have seen more riders not make it than make it. Well... most people dont even try to climb it. There are lots of hill at Winchester that will make a man think twice about trying! And most of them are not strait shots and you do not have any runs at them. I CANT WATE TO GET BACK DOWN THERE!!:D

straight up, one track coal piles with nothing but pine trees on either side and a couple of roots, rocks, turns or misc. items in between - turning back or turning around isn't usually an option.

This is a pic of one of the smaller hills at the Cinders in Arizona. There isnt a dune hat I know of that is as tall and as steep as these. If you dont have paddles you wont make it and it takes the equivalent of a piped and jetted banshee to make it to the top, and that is in second gear. They are at least a half mile tall and at 6,000-8,000 ft elevation. If you want to see if your machine has power then this is the place to test it

http://www.americansandassociation.org/phpBB2/modules.php?set_albumName=album52&id=101_0132_IMG&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

Yes thats the place. That is actually one of the medium size hills there. There the far left of that pic is alot steeper and rougher, and then there are a couple there that are longer, steeper and softer. And plus with them being about 6000-8000 feet high it makes it really hard to climb.

Thomas

That is a hill, I call that a speed bump in the trail, LOL

Now that is what you call a hill, that hill is nuts should be fun to wacth though.

Has anybody rolled there quad on that hill, if so was it still intact??

I live in So Cal, I should take a run down there 1 weekened to check it out.

that is wild ounce again.

DUNEZRUNNER
02-28-2003, 05:50 AM
I have heard of people rolling their quads from about 3/4's of the way up and it not stopping till it hit a tree at the bottom. I dont think it would be drivable after that. I have seen people in sandrals clip the trees as they come down the hill, it tears the whole rear end off of it. That hill is really steep, you can lock up all 4 brakes and still pick up speed going down it. It is awesome to do

300exTJjeeper

there's one hill out here that i have climbed, it's not very tall, maybe 40-50 feet but it's at least a 45 degree angle coming out of a sand wash and it's all rock but it's got some nasty little bumps in it. I'm the only one of my riding group that can make the hill, the others are too scared to try it.

yea the cinders are some sick stuff man, problem is, if you run dirt tires, you get traction, but not as good as paddles, if you run paddles, you end up tearing em up. I believe there is one hill there called "Hundred Dollar Hill" because every time your quad/bike flips, it's another hundred dollars it costs to fix it.

Yup there is a hill called that, and if you do wreck.... its about 500 to get it fixed cause your plastics are almost gone, so are your handlebars, and mabe your axle.

They are at least a half mile tall and at 6,000-8,000 ft elevation. If you want to see if your machine has power then this is the place to test it

And by the way that is a 400 turning around. He had a pipe and jetted, with paddle and a huge run.

You guys use paddles on that crap? It must be softer than it looks.......

I was thinking the same thing..It must be really soft,is it deep too?:huh

The cinder hills are very very very soft. If you dont have paddles then you dont go up them. The farthest that I know of someone going up on one with street tires is a twin turbo v-8 sandrail pushing about 800 hp and was light he got a huge run at it and made it about half way.

No I am saying that without paddles no one is going to make it up those hills. He had alot of power and alot of speed but no traction in that soft loose stuff so he didnt go anywhere

Oh i getcha now, I thought you meant that he HAD paddles and still didnt make it up.

My bad.

Speakin of bad......

Im lookin at the carbondale column banks with chris (my friend) and we see this snowmobile try to climb one of the steeper hills.
Of course they were covered with snow, but this kid thinks that he can make it. NOT!! About half way up, we see him stop and all ova sudden we see this huge cloud of snow, and a giant green sled tumblin down rite behind it.

We both look at each other and go whata retard.

Ya guys those are some good climb's.ya i know my rancher would do almost everything that my old 300ex would do.Only thing was for the big long rock dump hills.I could not hit a higher gear like my 300ex could.Ya me and my friend will try to get some of the one hill we have but don't climb it.It's called the cliff. It is the only biggest hill that's not a real hillclimb around here.

Hey i cant wait to get back on that one. Last Sunday the other guy that was coming to come with me to Tower bailed at the last minute so i decided to stay local. How was it? I am going to ride local tomorrow, gotta see Mom on Sunday, so will plan on the next Tower trip soon. Are there any other pits like at Tower?

I like. Where is this hill located? When can I come show you that if you can climb it on a bike I can do it on a 4X4 utility quad. I'm not quite ballsy enough to try with my R yet, but my Rancher will make it.
