anyone play around with them? i just got a t maxx classic, damn is it expensive. like 40 bucks a gallon for 20% nitro fuel. i got a quart, for 15bucks. its already half gone, its running rich. smokes like a mofo. i got it for free though, my grandpa gave it to me. my dad and his buddies all had t maxx's around 2002/3.my grandpa thought it was cool and went out and bought one, ran it up his alley a few times and put it away. been sitting since then. he just gave it to me, which i was ecstatic about. came with so many extra parts to, i have another set of shocks, another set of springs, another set of blue springs, rpm blue a arms all around(havnt put on yet), some type of different fuel system, servo skid, blue anodized full skids, have stock ones to, aluminum bumpers, have stockers, i have another set of wheels and tires, i found a box of like 10 glow plugs, all good, and so many other parts. these things are so damn hard to tune! i need to clean the carb, its cute how small the pistons are lol. i have a suburban body to, i just painted. my dad used to be heavy into this stuff all growing up and in his 20's. hes 33 now, hes been helping me a lot. i really appreciate it, after it sitting for so many years im surprised the motor wasnt froze, we finally got it running, its running kinda weird. like barely any lowend power, not supposed to be like that. any help? ive got one of my dads buddies coming over tomorrow thats still heavy into this stuff to help me tune and get it running right. gotta go get more fuel. ugh. just ripping around tonight, its really fun so far. should be a blast once i get it running right. there like little 2 strokes. you could get a fortune wrapped up in these. my dad might get one again. or an e maxx, so much less **** to deal with there.

howd the e maxx run in comparison to the t maxx?

Great. I actually preferred the Emaxx. The Tmaxx was faster top speed but the emaxx was much more fun with its instant torque. I later upgraded the motors to trinity monster maxs and had 2 3300 batterys in the Emaxx and would say it was deff faster than the Tmaxx. But I burnt up like 4 of those motors and went back to the stockers.

This was like 7 years ago though. :p

i have a t-maxx that i used to race every weekend and mess with just about every day. the t-maxx 2.5 is probably one of the easiest engines to tune out there. when in doubt go back out to stock main jet settings and turn it in when it warms up a bit. once you get it leaned out a bit you will be able to tell when it is just right just by the sound and performance.

keep an eye on engine temps also, that can also tell you how it is running. 180-210 is about as hot as it should usually get, over that and you should richen it up a bit.

when they are new you have to do a 5 tank break in setup, after that the engine is good to go and ready to rip. you have to be patient though since it does take quite a while to get it broke in.

they are alot of fun but just as expensive as wheeling after you get a bunch of aftermarket for them. i have hundreds of $$ just in tires and wheels alone, let alone all of the bodies, exhausts, and spare parts for it. i probably have 2 grand in mine total from when i raced and stuff.

I need to get my spare carb out and bolted on to get mine running again lol. i havent had time to get it working this summer :(

The Savage is superior to the T-Maxx in literally every way. Big block engine, all steel drive train, TVP chassis design, optional 3 speed tranny, and over all tougher.

Anyway, I owned a Smartech Magic Wheel (the REAL knockoff T-maxx ;D), a Revo 3.3, a Losi Lst2, and a Hot Bodies D8T.

The Magic wheel was a money pit. I basically built a name brand T-maxx one or two parts at a time. Here is a pic at the time I sold it. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/jerry42633/Rc/P1010005.jpg

My Revo was a beast. I got tired of the 3.3 and went with a BB conversion and used a Mach 427 out of a LST2. Best engine out there, period. Not the most powerful, but smooth and really really easy to tune. The Revo was totally after market (suspension, RPM arms, steel CVDs, Rx Tx, Techno RC conversions, truggy gas tank, bow ties, Nova 8 gear spider setup, and much more.) I had atleast $1200 in it when I sold it.
Revo:

Then I tried to build a LST2 from the ground up. Never worked out. Pic from when I parted it out:

That was 3 years ago. This Feb. I got the bug again and bought myself a truggy. I figured better handling+Big block engine + steel drive train is better. The trug was a beast compared to my MT's. But I just got bored with it and sold it this past month. No where to drive, no time to drive, and no one to drive with.

Those little nitro motors are supposed to smoke.. When it stops smoking is when your going to have a problem.. I agree with everything posted above..

If you can get one of those cheap temp guns. Probably about $20, those are a life saver...

This is what I'm ripping around at the moment...

My slash 4x4 just painted the body friday. Fun hobby and I'm lucky to have a hobby shop with a track 1/2 hour away.

id like to get another. either find a GT or GT2 and do a custom build, with an O.S. 18 cv-rx. or buy the slayer pro

personally i own the savage 4.6 and the tmaxx 2.5 and like others have said, i think the savage is far supierior in most every way. ive jumped and wrecked my savage at heights that would have demolished the tmaxx and the savage just drove away. the baja isnt nearly as tough as the savage but its still my favorite :D

The Baja is still a very tough truck. But you also have to remember the Baja weights close to 25-30lbs. Alot more weight than the savage. The Baja still has plastic parts, even thou they are bigger they can still break as easy as a savage.

The savage maybe weights 3 lbs. Of course stuff can still break but the Baja is a lot heavier and will break more things.

I had a savage and it did take punishment rather well

yeah good point JForest. jumpin the baja 10 feet in the air and nose diving it into the ground is bound to break something. in my case the shock tower and right front a arms lol. the baja weighs a ton. ive hit myself with my savage and it hurt like hell but id really hate to take a hit from the baja at high speed. probably a broken ankle
