View Full Version : Will 22" Rear Tires Bog Down The Motor?

I ride alot of trails in Ohio and W. Virginia that get real slippery at times and have trouble getting traction. I ordered a set of BEAR CLAWS mounted on Douglas rims to help with traction. The wheels are 22x12x10. thought the taller tire would allow another inch of clearance also. Has anyone ran a taller tire before? And if so, did you have to swap out a front or rear sprocket to compensate?

the 22" tires shouldn't bog your 400 down. about what is the top speed of your quad?

I USE A GPS MOUNTED TO THE HANDLEBARS WHEN I RIDE IN SOUTHERN OHIO AND HAVE HAD THE BIKE UP TO 56MPH.

56? That is all? Hmm I ran mine with a GPS bone stock to 64mph and with my current mods it ran 75. I plan on gettin 22" ice tires and I'm hoping for 80+ :D

Yeah, going with a taller and heavier rear tire will rob some horsepower, and may cause you to "bog" at times. It was very noticeable to me when I ran 22" rear tires. I took someones advise and I replaced my stock 15 tooth front sprocket with a 14 tooth front sprocket... WOW a very noticeable improvement!:)

I am not familiar with the Bear Claw tire, but I highly recommend going with a smaller front tooth sprocket when going to taller rear tires.

Good luck!:)
