awesome quad i learned to ride on that beat it and rode it for years that was after my dad who bought it new in 86 wore it out for years. We just sold it still started right up but smoked. Only problem I had with it was the axle carrier bolts wouldn't stay tight and would strip out. Honda made another quad with the same motor in the 90s and called it the type 2 but it was shaft drive and it had racks. My buddy had one of those back when we were kids mine was faster with the chain drive.

Couple people have them in my area there is a mint one use to push dirt track cars around at the track and then there is another one running around. Also couple on craig list right now it is amazing that many are still running strong.

yikes 200$ for a plastic replacement is going to hurt. Did you check ebay or see if any parts cross fit? Their is one on craigslist near me for 500 i was thinking about picking up for my wife.

**Back in the day**,

One way we used to scrub out the insides of a rusted metal fuel tank, was to get a 2' length of chain, (like a bicycle chain lock), some medium sized bolts, nuts, etc.

rinse out the tank with some soapy water
(use liguid dish soap), remove the petcock, duct tape the hole, and then put the chain / bolts/ etc. inside the tank.
(count the bolts and nuts before you put them inside).

Add another cup or two of soapy water, put on the fuel cap.

Then shake, shake, shake, until you think your arms are going to fall off, lol!

don't shake so hard that the hardware is flying around inside,... you just want to keep it all sliding around all over the place.

Keep turning the tank to both sides, upside down, and shake it some more.

Rinse it out, and do it again.

Rinse it some more and do it again with something like Simple Green.

Rince it again, and do it some more with Rubbing Alcohol.

May take a few days, and yeah, I know it's a lot of work, but you'd be surprised at how clean you can usually get it.

I know there are also liquid "liners" that can be used, but I never had much luck with those staying adhered to the inside of the tank.
(I tried it on my old '70 Honda CB750).
After a while, the liner material comes loose, and it's like having a big trashbag floating around in the tank, so I don't recommend using it.

Metal tanks can be saved, but it is a lot of work.

also, it is highly recommended that after you get it cleaned out, to use a in-line fuel filter, between the tank and the carb.

oh yeah, and btw,...
remember to re-count the nuts and bolts when you pour them out ! :D

hope this helps, and Happy Shaking !
