I just called to see about getting oil changed on my 07 400 they want 70 bucks which seems high to me. How hard would it be to do this my self? Also what oil should I use? How many quarts? Thanks for any help you can give me.

save yourself the money and do it yourself, warm the bike up then pull the drain plug, let it empty out then plug the hole, put oil in, i believe its 1.8 quarts of oil. A good oil is shell rotella, 13 bucks a gallon and It seems to hold up better than honda's BS stuff

And the oil filter cover is 2 bolts iirc. Its a 8mm pull the cover, check o-ring for tears, then put your new filter in and BAM! you saved 70 dollars(do this while the bike has no oil btw)

theres a small bolt on the left side of the engine thats horizontal if i remember right and you drain oil from there along with oil from the bottom bolt in the oil tank. after all that you put the plugs back in pull the oil filter pop a neww one in. i usually add a little over a quart then start it and add the rest as needed.

im 15 and ive changed my oil ever since i bought my 400, first u drain the oil tank the bolt is underneith it, second u drain the crank case which is on the side of the shifter, you let that drain then put the bolts back in then go to the other side then take the oil cover off and pull the oil filter out with the spring on the back of it and let it drain then replace the filter then put the spring in first then the filter then put the cover back on and fill her up, i use Lucas Oil 10W40 with a K&N Oil Filter and it works PERFECT!!!!:macho :D

Warning!

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT over torque the bolts! The 8mm head 6mm shaft oil filter cover needs only to be snugged by hand with a 1/4 drive ratchet and by snug I mean just snugged, not tight or they will snap and your sol. Same goes for the oil tank, dont over tighten it-you will snap the tank where the bolt goes.

I suggest you get a service manual, it will help a lot. I'm pretty sure even the owners manual show's how to change oil. It's easy to do yourself, just don't over tighten the bolts like CJM warned.
