Well guys i just a tractor, I picked up a 43 farmall H with a loader for 1100, new rubber all around, im gonna mod the motor up some and pull it at a local track. I want to paint it but I thought it would be smart to ask this stupid question, when your painting the block and trans, and all that I know enough to get all the oil and **** off it but how much of the old paint to i have to remove? like do i have to sand blast it all? I have a bunch of IH red already cause I used it on a plow.

i'll post pics tomorrow.

thanks for the help

sorry to hijack the thread but, How much you guys think a 50 something Farmall Cub is worth with a woods 59 bellymower, front plow, discs, farm plow, and I think we have the brush hog thing that you can cut sides of steep hills with(forget what theyre called). I'm gonna repaint it and rewire the whole thing as well.

Smart choice on going red lol. We have a collection of 20+ red tractors and the painting all depends on the existing paint. If the tractor is pure rust we will tear it completely down and sandblast everything. If it has some paint on all the frame castings then we have a hot water pressure washer that we wash the frame with. Takes alot of simple green and hot water but it does the job. Ask me any questions you may have. International has been in my blood since my grandpa started worked for IH in the 50's.

We still use daily a International 1256 to turn our disc mower, and International 1056 as a mixer wagon tractor.

Many of these tractors are still in use today. These tractors were just like cars, built when things were built right and built to last. To us they are just a hobby anymore. Both of the tractors i pictured above were saved from the graveyard, they were not in service when purchased. The tractor with duals was bought to be a pullin tractor, We built an engine and dad decided he wanted to go back to the original look..Its equipped with a DT466 roller cam engine. It was put on a 200 horse PTO dyno last summer and it dam near flipped it over so we had to shut it down. So i guess its our sleeper lol. For those of you that know IH know that they only made the "Black Stripe" 66 series one year, So to have 2 black stripes of this condition is something we are proud of..............Lets see some pics of this H!!!!!! lol

Well said. A well maintained tractor of that era will outlive the human working on it.

You didnt do bad at all, nice tractor man. I see its got fenders, are they originals or re-productions. If their originals they are worth a good bit theirself if their in good shape
